Cultivating corn

Thanks for the help in setting my cultivator. I set it for 1 1/2 inches and it did a good job with what seemed like less ridging. Before cultivation we had spread 200 pounds of dry urea fertilizer with a stabilizer. We had some weeds starting to come as we have had no rain since spraying. Usually we wait for a good rain forecast and spread our fertilizer and let the rain put it in. The tractor is My Deere 2510 diesel with a 4 row AT40 cultivator. Tom

With corn that tall, cultivate not very deep and drive fast so that dirt sort of splashes an inch or two up against both sides of the corn stalks, This puts a seal on the ground to preserve moisture. With a 2510 probably 4th or 5th gear and 1 or 1.5 inches deep.

wait thats cheating front cultivator... never did have one of them... maybe thats why me neck hurts so much... we always had a rear mount on a ford.. spent more time looking behind me then in front of me..

looks like its doing a good job.

cultivated many acres in my day with front mount cultivator mostly without a cab tractor and at40 cultivator was probably the most enjoyed field trip I did

Did many acres with a 961 powermaster back in the day.I'm afraid with a the weeds becoming resistant to chemicals ,the next generation of farmers will be going back to cultivating crops again.
