Cub Cadet Z Force 44 will not crank/start

A friend I sort of look after has a Cub Cadet Z Force zero turn mower that will not crank/start when you turn the key switch to start. The starter is good as it cranks when it is jumped. I assume the problem is in some safety device like the switches on the steering levers, PTO button, parking brake, or seat. Can someone give me an idea where to start? I don't think they have the money to take it to a shop. I did post this over on garden tractors as well. Thank you.

maybe you are too light to activate the safety switch in the seat lol.. i would be checking that switch.

I know this is not the best way to check but put a jumper in one switch at a time if it starts there's the problem. If not then need to dig deeper.

I'd check the seat sw first with a jumper. Then do a look over of the brake and pto sws. If not obvious, locate a wiring diagram to help. Most are available online.

Just checked CC website and they state that the wiring diagram is in the owners manual. Hope your owner kept it!

Just to suggest mine doesnt start unless the parking brake is on and turn levers are firmly swung to the outside. Parking brake is just a memory thing but sometimes the levers have to be slammed a few times to make whatever contact is needed.

As the others have posted it is most likely an interlock switch. Check you tube. You will probably find multiple videos on the specific model.

If it's a simple carbed engine:
Isolate the kill circuit to determine if that is the problem.
Remove the top shroud and disconnect the kill wires from the coils.
