When I help the neighbor plant potatoes,
Another long time farmer from the neighborhood is always there too

He is the guy running the old planter,,it was originally his,but the other neighbor bought it when it was sold at the family farm auction

The neighbor bought the 3 pt two row cultivator also

Now ,these two have a deal,,,he helps plant,,and help yourself to potatoes,,,it works out great,,since his family wanted the farm he grew up on,,sold

So,,,I asked him,,how come you do so good with the three pt cultivator? I Tried it one time and ripped half my stuff out

Hes a jokester like me

His answer was,,,,,dont ever turn around..keep going ,,but,,,dont look back

With any cultivator on a 3 point hitch the best advice I heard most often is to keep the tractor hood emblem aligned with what was being cultivated and don't look back.

When Ford-Ferguson came out with the world changing 3-PT Lift System, all implements would now be revamped to lift type implements instead of pull-type. Prior to the Lift Type Cultivator, operators had to watch behind them. With the new Lift Type, the cultivators now used a front axle attached row marker and the farmer watched the row marker as a guide. If he turned around to watch behind him he would skew off track the rows and destroy young crops. It was chore for some new farmers to adjust to the 3-PT Lift implements. The DEARBORN 2-Row Cultivators had to be moved out from the drag links in order to straddle two rows. The row marker or pointer was bolted to the front axle. The Cultivator also had a steering guide fin, that was like a coulter disc in the center to help steering straight. The unit also had flexible crop shields to help protect young sprouts.

Agreed.
Never look back.
Clemson had an old Ford 2000 4 speed with a rear cultivator.
If you hung a chain off the front axle that would be just over one of the rows, all you had to do was keep the chain on the row.

All works nice till you get on a side hill then it all goes from ata boy to something else. The mid mount cultivator worked well for the side hills and flats like on an Hor M or on the A or B Deere. Bolted to the front and just had the track wiper in the back.

you need the cultivator up front so you can see if you are doing a good job and all shovels are doing their job and not letting a strip where it doesent get the weekd plowed out if the shovels arent set correcxt there will be a strip that doesent get the dirt covered thats why up front you can see how the soil is moved

I have one of those Ferguson cultivators. Is there a parts source or the coulter and hub, my hub is broken on one side. Right now I have it doing one row duty on my 3005 John Deere. I want to put it on my 51 8N when I finish it up.

Or swivel the seat sideways where you can see both the row guide and the cultivator in a glance. About mid day I have to swivel it the other way to give a ham cheek a break and look at the row guide on the opposite side of the tractor.
