I would be concerned that those junk filters didn't keep the dirt out as good as they would like to claim. As for the exhaust I guess that is one of those cases of if a little is good more is better.

The dirt works like lapping compound, making the ring to cylinder wall fit tighter so the cylinders seal better and produce more compression.
