Electric walk behind mower

Looking at electric walk behind mowers for the wife. I'm leaning towards Milwaukee but the price is a lot higher (50%) Stihl has caught my attention also.

Like anything electric, look at battery replacement cost as one factor also.

However, I don't think the price matters much when happy wife=happy life....

The Ryobi 40V has both a push and self propelled version. Neighbor is pleased with the 20 inch push version. I havent compared prices.

I only use one battery on all my cordless tools, 20v dewalt. I have no desire to buy a cordless mower. If I were I would look at this one from Ace hardware.

$449.00

I would shop around and buy just the mower only because I have enough batteries and chargers.
Something else to consider. The price of the replacement battery.

(quoted from post at 11:57:23 05/15/23) People seem to like the Ego brand too. Sold at Lowes and Ace Hardware stores. 4.6 stars with 6000+ reviews on google.
know of two people using ego mowers. One is self propelled and has been happy with it for three seasons. The other is not self propelled and is using it for the first season this year. If you cannot complete the lawn with one charge, a second battery is expensive, but generic batteries are available at a lower price.

Now-a-days for most people the cost of a service call on a low end gas powered push mower is close to half the price of a brand new low end mower. So, many people simply choose to replace their gas powered push mower when it needs any engine service that they can not do themselves. In short, low end gas push mowers are now disposable.

To that majority of owners an electric mower that they can replace the battery themselves is a very good deal compared to buying another disposable gas mower.

We are DeWalt cordless 100 percent. So we were going to buy a battery push mower to go with all the rest of our DeWalt tools. But Home Depot had a Milwaukee display on sale for more than half off.... We bought it and love it.

Just bought an Ego push mower at work, self propelled model, non mulching.
It's set up for side discharge. Mostly plastic so we'll see how it holds up
but it's so light haven't needed to engage self propel on it. It's also
shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh quiet. Co-worker couldn't understand when he saw me walking
back and forth through a window, then he realized I was mowing the lawn.

y lawn man said electric is far toooo sloowww for his business.

I own a lot of Dewalt cordless and am happy with them but if I were to start all over Id go with Milwaukee. I think battery power is great for small lawns or projects but gas is better for those of us with bigger lawns or projects. Its GREAT to have choices and different energy sources, be it gas or electric, so we can choose based on our needs. Ahhhhhh technology Im NOT in favor of banning gas or wood for cooking and heating nor banning electric or gas powered lawn mowers (I hear some states actually are ??)

To each their own choices, gas or electric, be it lawn mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, automobiles etc. Gotta love options.

Those disposable gas powered mowers are great for me - they insure a steady supply of good repairable mowers for me to choose from. Whenever I need a mower, I look at the Craig's list free listings, and there is usually one there. They do get picked up fast, though.

If you have room, there is an adapter to go from 20v dewalt to 18v milwaukee.

I don't see much difference between a 5 amp dewalt and a 5 amp milwaukee except for color.

Both are made in China..

I have mowed for the last 30 years with auction and yard sale mowers , from $5 to $20 each, I have even sold some of the $5 ones for $20 , I do not own any cordless tools or equipment

I don't know about their mowers, but my wife has a Sun Joe tiller. She absolutely loves that thing. She brags it up to everybody whether they want to hear about it or not.

I recently bought a St Joe 12 corded chain saw; power it from a Honda porta generator that sits in back of my Kubota side by side. Set up is efficent, flexible and simple to use. Love it.

I have 3 fee lawn mowers here at the cabin that others have given up on, and they all started and mowed today. I did buy a replacement carburetor a few years ago, but I rarely have to buy parts.

laugh but i got a cheep hf 3/8 impact and 4 inch angle grinder along with my BIG dewalt 1/2 inch drive impact. i use all 3 hard. i expect the hf to die soon but i will replace with more hf. when a cheep 38 impact will unscrew 1/2 inch bolts out of my 6 ft mower deck im happy.
as i age im using those cordlerss tools lots more. im thinkin hf is about where first cordless tools were built but seem to have power and the bauer batterys stay up if you buy the best batterys

not a push but i've had my ryobi 40v self-propelled 21" for a year and really like it. very nuanced control. i believe they have now come out with an all-wheel-drive ... which i can see as possibly handy on anything but dead flat lawns. i do about a half acre weekly. it usually has enough juice in the 2 included batteries to finish ... almost an hour and a half. i have many other ryobi 40v tools so always a battery ready when needed. all the batteries have held up perfectly so far.

but ... the self-propel gave up a few weeks ago. one problem with electrics is the troubleshooting and repair. i looked for the obvious potential problems but in the end i'm stuck with taking it to a certified repair person. the ryobi warranty is very good ... 5 years. i've had them replace tools previously after very substantial use and time. the mower is in the shop waiting evaluation. frustrating for a diy guy ... but the parts are too potentially expensive to justify breaking the warranty.

i usually buy used equipment with good luck. splurged this time! no regrets.

it's been fun to use the old gas mower/s in the meantime ... which have been sitting dry for that time. good grief ... i had to put on ear muffs! and breathe fumes! and fiddle with the carb / oil / belts!
