Lawnmowers and broken windows

One of my rental homes has 4 broken windows from the lawnmower launching rocks.
Picking up all the rocks would be good if the moles did not keep pushing up more.
Some have suggested hanging plexiglass over the windows.
Some suggest making sure you have a good Discharge Shute on the mower
Some have suggested to mower clockwise around the yard to make sure the discharge is facing away from the windows when your close to the windows.
The riding lawnmower is only about 4 years old Husquavarna.
Discharge Shute in good shape. We do mow clockwise.
I am thing of hanging something onto the end of the discharge Shute to keep rocks from being launched into the siding and windows.
What is a good solution?

I have had that happen as well. The mower does not care which direction you are driving.
Change your direction of driving. The discharge will be to the outside no matter which direction
but suspect you are circling. try rows perpendicular to the windows you want to avoid.
A plexiglass shield in front of the windows works wonders. Drill a few holes if you need air circulation

No mole pops their heads through my zoysia grass.
Zoysia grass grows in my yard without chemicals or fertilizer.
No watering.

That is not as bad as a few years ago.
My son had a boy hired and as he was mowing, he launched a rock through the windshield on my son's JD 9400 combine.
It went about 75 feet and up at least 8 feet.
$1000.

You might put hooks over the windows and hand a piece of plywood over the windows while you are mowing and take them down when you are done. !/4 plywood should be sufficient.

In 20 years "Zoysia grass" will be the next invasive species and the next big threat to American agriculture.

"Zoysia is a genus of creeping grasses widespread across much of Asia and Australia..." Yup, pretty much guaranteed.

I wish people would quit blindly importing plants and animals from far away places and setting them loose where they don't belong and don't have any natural predators, or conditions where they will thrive beyond anyone's ability to control them.

Yep lets make a list of non native plants and animals from other places in the USA.All cattle, horses, domestic sheep, goats, chickens, geese, most ducks,Honey Bees,All small grains,Pheasants, most dogs and cats. And of course all GMO crops, sure there are some I missed.

Don't know how short your mowing, or how big the rocks are, but, if your picking up that many rocks I guess I would mow a little higher.
I mow 2.5 in the spring and 3 when it's getting hot and dryer. At 2.5 if it did pick up a rock, it has to be pretty good size, hence it never happens.

does husky make a mulching cover for your mower? my jd mower has a cover to convert the deck to mulch, and it also has a bagger.

Are you mowing the grass yourself, does a mowing service do the mowing, or is the renter responsible to mow? Unless you are mowing it yourself I would not rely on instructions to be followed to the letter.

If windows are getting broken then flying rocks must also be damaging siding, fences, parked vehicles, and anything else in the yard too.

Mulching instead of side discharge, mowing higher and removing rocks periodically and on schedule are my suggestions.

Not sure of the point your making, but I would be mighty grateful if people would stop bringing feral pigs to Ohio. Some hunting club set 10 loose so they could hunt them later. Had a heck of a time killing those things; then have to be hauled away and buried. They cant be butchered to feed the needy, because USDA wont allow it. Maybe some will remember the time they seized and destroyed 2500lb of venison donated to a homeless shelter, all because someone circumvented the government.

I would just ad a tin/steel plate where the grass is being kicked out. leave a opening at the back where it can leave and all your grass is in a swath when finished and get the renter to rake it up and compost it. I always did that with my mowers to avoid broken glass from dog bones in the lawn. Basically building a box at the discharge that has front top and strait out covered only place for grass and stone to go is down and out the back. stone hits the plate and falls down, never had it fly out the back.

Point is without non native species here in the USA there would not be many crops and animals on farms. So the hunt clubs want something that the farmers don't want,so it goes. Same with deer.

You and I agree on this one, invasive zoysia grass, wish that was all I have to worry about. Like you say everything came from somewhere,.. the posters window problem is simple get a diffrent mower, rear discharge or put a better deflector on that one.
