I got started today spraying for tomato virus control in the baccer after the hiboy decided it would start. The Temps this morning were in the upper 50's. It has always been a hard starter if you needed to have a jacket on or close to it. The engine and injection pump have been rebuilt. I have never figured out why these engines are so temperature sensitive. They'll start right up in really hot weather good. It has always been a running joke locally that if a JD 6000 hiboy is on an auction, that someone had to get up mighty early to get it running in time before the crowd gets there for the start of the sale.

Engine was rebuilt to stick specs instead of the high compression version .
Is the engine cranking slow due to drag from a hydraulic pump ?
A larger 4Kw starter will bolt on .

The engine spins over pretty decent
on all 3 of the machines we have
that utilizes this engine. On this
hiboy it does have a belt driven
hydraulic pump that is not capable
of being disconnected at startup.
Normally I will shake the steering
wheel slightly which seems to dump
some hydraulic pressure and aid in
start ability. I was not aware of a
larger starter that would fit these
engines. That would be a help.

try advancing timing 4 to 5 degrees. those engines like that and 1010 2010 tractor engines were all hard to start when cold.bump timing up makes for more fuel heat cranking over

I have a neighbor who is a huge JD man. I was at his farm one day recharging the a/c on one of them. Don't even remember what model, maybe 4030-ish. It was a warm day and I couldn't believe he used ether when he went to start it. He told me that if the sun goes behind a cloud it wouldn't start without ether.
