My dream truck

A 1957 GMC 100. Sounds like the perfect truck for me. I will willingly admit that I prefer the past over the present. I don't understand all the computer systems in modern cars. I know my way around any vintage engine. All mechanical. Nice and simple. I don't understand why most kids my age only care about a screen. I much rather go and get my hands greasy.

My choice would be a '53 GMC that I did a total nut and bolt restoration on. I then drove it across Canada
and back, then to Guatemala and back. Did not have one problem. I then bought my farm (1/4 section in a
mountainous area), but feared my truck would suffer due to the 13 mi. gravel road. Sadly sold it to a guy
who more or less repeated my adventures. Ran into it parked on a residential street in Vancouver years
later, found the owner - it now had 300,00- miles on it. I offered to buy it back - no go.

I've had this A since 1968,when I turned 12.I took the closed cab off and put this open cab on about 20-22 years
ago.8 years ago I parked it in a shed, planning to take it out and work on it in the middle of the winter.I never
touched it again until this morning, and drove it out at 10:AM today.I brought it home and put it in my shop to
clean it up and get it ready to go again. The wind cleaned of most of the dust on the trailer ride, and I've been
letting the rain do some more.It really does clean up pretty.I've owned hundreds of things, but still have my first
car(truck),my first snowmobile,mini bike,scooter,motorcycle,and tractor.I lost my first rifle,shotgun,and pistol
when my house burned.

I think it's great you enjoy old
machinery, I do too, of all types. I
bought this truck(1938 GMC) while still
in highschool 1976. Was still registered.
Finally got it done and on the road about
10 years ago(I had tractors, heavy
equipment, sawmill to keep me busy also)
I love the old trucks.

I've got a 58 or 59 GMC half ton. Same cab
as the 57 but has 4 headlights instead of
2. Has the wrap around rear window. Needs
a lot of love though!

Now that's a cool truck choice!

You're a good young man... keep on the
path you are traveling.

That sir would be a awesome pic for a puzzle! Good exposure, good focus and a really neat truck.......

I am still looking for the model A truck that belonged to the Methvin family. It was used to ambush Bonnie and Clyde on May 23rd 1934.

Those old power wagons like that bring big money if they are in any type of condition. The parts and scrap ones don't. I'd like to have one with the original drive line. Not going far with it and would be using it for moving things from one farm to the other that are heavier than I want to do with a regular pickup.

That photo of the GMC brings back memories. Dad bought a new '55 Chevy to replace the '41. Wish we had both of them. The
'55 was a long wheel base 1/2 ton with a six engine and 4 speed tranny. Plain-Jane, not even a radio. We worked the devil
out of that thing. Hauled wheat, milo barley and other grain in the summer, hauled silage and hay bales in the winter, drove it to school often. Just
plain worked it to death. Always liked that body style but they sure were subject to rust and it wasn't long before the doors
and windows didn't work right.

Not a truck, but this is my get a thumbs up ride. Nice for getting an ice cream or going to a car
show, but none of these trucks (if original) would I consider an everyday driver.

This is fun to bop around in (I've had it to the east and west coast), but once again not an everyday driver, at least for a 70 year old.

This is my local every day driver.

This is what I use when I tow or want to go somewhere in comfort.

That would be a great truck to have as a Sunday driver after you are established in life and have a career that lets you afford expensive hobbies. If you have driven 1950s vehicles very much you probably would not want one for a daily driver because the reliability, comfort, features, capabilities and economy are far less than modern vehicles. Many get modern upgrades or the body is installed on a modern chassis. The styling is unbeatable though.
