I only saw one once in a museum and after I got to know more about them, I'm glad we never owned one. Interesting though. Simple in design and quite functional. They made a drop in engine for a Farmall M that was described as the simplest way to turn a Farmall M into a Farmall H. Sheppard was of the famous shoemaking family of Hanover, PA but he didn't take to making shoes. The tractor adventure failed but they're still in business manufacturing power steering units for large trucks.

Operator's manual stated to change this huge Fram stacked disc oil filter cartridge ''when the oil looks dirty''.

Guy used to enter one of them in the antique pull at our local fair. He never did very well, but it was for fun anyway. It was a really sharp looking tractor.

Someone brings a beautifully restored one every year to our club's display at the county fair.

My dad owned 2 of the SD3 tractors traded them off in 1966 on a new 730ck case. He liked them but wanted a larger tractor.

These Sheppard SD-2 and SD-3 tractors turn often at the Alexander Steam Shows. The SD-2 is kinda unique as it sounds like a John Deere 70 diesel.

Also there's a Sheppard diesel repowered Farmall M that shows up occasionally.

A few years ago I spotted a Fairbanks-Morse diesel genset with a familiar-looking engine at the Pageant of Steam (Canandaigua NY). Turned out it was a repainted/rebranded 3 cylinder Sheppard, same as found in the SD-3 tractor.

I wonder what happened to the ones he traded in? Don't get me wrong. I'm not interested in buying one, just wondering. They're rather rare. Not that many built. Parts are nearly impossible to find but can be self manufactured. I liked them from a distance. (;>))

There were some at Portland IN tractor show in 2020. These are rare tractors. There is a Sheppard tractor Club maybe be based in Ohio. They have an annual show every 2 yrs. Their next Show is in 2024, It maybe in PA.

Hahaha I can picture the discussions in the shop: "Vernon, that oil look dirty to you?"

"Nah, I seen worse. Run it!"

Neat tractor, don't think I've ever seen one.

There is a guy not far from me that has an SD-2 SD-3 and SD-4. A couple years ago we had the Sheppard collectors at our show and I got to see a Sheppard repowered Farmall M and a Sheppard SD-6 which I was told was an experimental

The dealer resold them quick.Dad pulled a 3 bottom in Sandy loam soil. The 730 was bought new with a 4 bottom.

I have a friend that has a SD 2, 2 SD3 and a SD4!!! He also has a Farmall M with the
Shepherd 3 cyl Diesel motor and also has a SD1 one cylinder stationary motor!! There was also a SD1 tractor but very few were
built and believe there are none known exist!!!! ! This is a photo of his
SD2 & SD3 at a local show!!

Well, that's the way folks talked back in the ''good old days''. Bet the manual didn't have 149 pages of safety warnings either. (;>))

I don't know the date these pictures were taken. There is also a video of a running SD-1. Again, I don't know the date.
