Removed cracked head and number 2 piston in turned 180 off. Remove rod cover and number on rod is up. Would you remove or it been this way for years and leave alone.

I'd take it out and check the bore. TOP mark is not just for the plug clearance. The oil ring groove is drilled around the upper half of the circumference.
