Ferguson to30 rebuild

Hi everyone,

Full disclosure, I am no mechanic, but my son is at votech in the automotive class and is loving it. We decided to rebuild my ferguson to30 for learning purposes and I have a couple questions and would love some feed back. We got the head back today and we're putting the valves back together when we noticed the exhaust valves do not have the dimple on top to accept the caps. Can I just use intake caps on the exhaust valves? The other question Is, where do the valve seals go on the exhast valves? Or maybe they don't have any? Any help would be great.

For the swapping valves usually the intake is larger than the exhaust. For the seals most tractors didn't have any the clearance on the guides was the seal so to speak. There should be one or two groves in the stem at or near the end for the keepers to fit into when the spring is compressed to hold the spring on the valves. I would have thought the people doing the head would have done the valves and seats then assembled the valves in the head for you.

The valves should have been part of the rebuild job. Without that they do not know if the valve seats and guides are any good.

Not familiar with to30 Id recommend a I.T.Tech manual first that way u have an outline to track to be successful in your rebuild. Get one a t
TSC store or Farm store other.

70 year old tractor will have a lot more to do to it than engine . Is why a manual is a must for even the experienced people.
