I didn't know they made both body styles in one year. My brother has a big old 47 GMC water truck with a similar grille to the one on the left. Some previous owner installed Buick portholes on the fender sides.

The old style truck is a GMC, or maybe just a few front sheet metal is GMC.

The new style '47 did not start production until May 1947.

Some truck plants continued producing the '46 style until March 1947. Most likely, most were 3/4 tons and higher.

Probably a Jan. 1944 to May 1946 model wartime restriction on chrome, blackout grill?

I think I see "General Motors Truck" on the side of the hood.

Very nice! Thats pretty cool that you have the early and later models. Do many of the parts interchange?
Im looking for some steel wheels to make mine look a little more original. The previous owner installed disc brakes in the front and put a newer Chevy rear in the back. It also has a 283 and 4 speed.

Somewhere, but I haven't seen them in years, I have the glass for the corner windows. Don't even remember where I got them as I never owned one of those trucks.

Doesnt that year GMC have the full pressure GMC engine that started in 39 and the Chevrolet have the old low pressure engine? The Chevrolet full pressure 235 started in 53 didn't it?

Dingo, if you haven't already done so, check out the forums at stovebolt.com . Lots of good info there--everything you ever wanted to know about these trucks.

Really nice truck! But I do agree with the wheels, hope you are able to find original looking wheels. joe

Yup. I have a 47 chevy tow truck that has
the 46 style body. The same thing happened
in 1955. There were 55 1st series that
were the same as 54 and then the 2nd
series was the new body style.
