Kosch Steering aid

I think they were somewhat application-
specific, you might add what it needs to
fit to your search request.

IT IS A STEERING WHEEL with a gear arrangement in the center which turns slower per turn , but should turn easier and reduce or end kick back when driving over rough ground .

Would be used on SM IH.....could also retrofit car steering pump
to steering moter on steering shaft.

Was thinking if I could find Kosch system it would be cheaper and a lot less work .

Only one I've ever seen was years ago on my neighbor's WD45 AC. He had a 4 row cultivator on it and said it made it easier to steer. He said it also eliminated steering wheel kick back. He liked it.

Hello John welcome to YT. Have not been around one
of them but saw a post about one of these or a similar
system within the last month. The info I read at that
time seemed to me like the system would be somewhat
unhandy and ..clunky.. I believe you are saying you are
wanting this for a Super M Farmall. Not sure what you
are using your SM for but if it is very much outside of
driving on the road I am going to say if you bite the
bullet and install a Charlynn system you will not regret
it. It also cost ME nothing to write this and spend your
money.

Grandpa and dad had one on SC Case, which was the planting tractor at the time. It did greatly reduce kickback on the steering. I do not recall any issue when travelling on the road. I have no idea where you might find one now.

Search steering quickner. Racers use them to speed up steering response. They are usually 1 to 1.5 or 1 to 2 ratio. I would think you could install it backwards to accomplish what you are trying to do.

(quoted from post at 15:45:14 04/24/23) Anyone know the whereabouts of one of these......as in does anybody know where I could find one ??? :?:

No. You're asking about a relatively rare aftermarket accessory that has been out of production for 50+ years. There is not going to be one reliable source for such an item.

All you can do is keep cash in your pocket and keep your eyes open. Go to estate auctions where there are old tractors. Watch ebay and facebook marketplace. Ebay is probably your best bet because someone will stumble across one on a junk tractor, snatch it up, and put it on ebay for big big profit. Note that I said it won't be cheap. If you want one and you're not willing to spend the rest of your life looking for it, you're going to have to pay whatever the next guy to post one for sale is asking...

Only ever saw adds, never a unit. Could not see how it could work. On here saying gear reduction so it would have to have a mount for your particular tractor to hold housing in place to allow the gears inside to operate and not just turn the complete housing. If that is so you could make your own version

Talked to neighbor yesterday........told him what I was looking for and he mentioned another neighbor who had recently bought at auction a WD Allis with different steering wheel.

Went over to check it out....and there it was , the Kosch Steering Aid. Thinking I could adapt it too SM.....But may have too buy whole tractor too get the wheel..lol

Checked out Kosch Company and still going today....sold the steering aid into early 2000's.....according to Mr. Google !!

this has been informative for me, as I have one of these on one of the WD's and was not sure what it was.
I have not drove the tractor yet, so no idea how well (or not so well) these are.
