Got my wide front home

Drove down into Missouri today to pick up the Schwartz wide front for my WD45 Allis Chalmers that I'd bought on an online auction. Was a little worried that the disassembler had cut off the steering shaft so I pondered on what I was going to have to do about that all the way home.

I've been doing some research since I got home and it looks like I won't even have to change the pedestal! From what I read the Schwartz was designed to be able to switch back and forth for those farmers who used the Allis with a mounted picker so Schwartz used the Allis Chalmers WD45 pedestal, nice. As an added bonus Schwartz made it beefy enough for use with a loader, great! The WD45 is one of my loader tractors ao that works well for me.
Happy Days!

I do feel I've had a long day but since I was going that way there was an auction with a 620 John Deere selling on it that wasn't too far out of the way so I was sorely tempted to stop on my way. I ended up buying a receiver mounted platform for my handicap scooter, 2 boat tanks and an outboard motor. I found out the 620 wasn't selling until after 1:30 but it was also selling online so I left to go pick up my wide front. Unfortunately time got away from me and I couldn't get logged on before the 620 sold, it went for $1800.

I feel like I've had a long day but I've wanted a wide front for my WD45 for well over a quarter of a century and now I have it.

A lot of people get along fine with a tricycle front end and you have for 25 years and I did for a few years too but give me a wide front please.

Something I've wanted since my daughter was a tiny toddler, she turns 30 this year. Kind of eager to get it done.

Nice. Wide front is definitely nicer on a dedicated loader tractor. I had that model tractor with power steering and WFE. Good rugged unit.

Dad had a WD, I used to ride on the toolbox. I wanted to ride on the shelf in front of the radiator but Dad never let me for some unknown reason. Looked pretty appealing to a young child, I understand now.

I bought a Allis Chalmers wide front a few years ago now for $375.00 and haven't got around to putting it on my WD-45. Wd-45 is rebuilt with Gleaner E Engine and all fixed up & painted. It kind of a show tractor though it only seen the light of day a few times in the last 10 years. I have a old WD work tractor with power steering fully operational now and wondering if maybe the wide front should go on it? This tractor was the 2nd tractor my Dad had that he bought new in 1951 and beat the hell out of it until about 1992 when it wore out. Since it all fixed now I plan on using the old WD a lot so wide front may be nice. I been around narrow front all my life so don't know what the advantages are. What do you think? Cleddy

Never ran a wide front WD45 but I was told by friends who own both that they prefer the wide front tractor.

But I've had experience with both fronts, we had a narrow front 4010 John Deere and a wide front 4020. The 4010 was far more prone to getting stuck than the 4020. The narrow front seemed to sink quite easily and the wide front would go right through.

When I swapped my narrow front for a wide front on my WD45 the steering shaft coming out of the wide front was shorter than the one used on the narrow front. Of course my wide front came off a WD so it maybe different than one off a WD45.

I bought my wide front off a parts dealer and when it arrived I noticed the steering shaft had been cut. Luckily the seller had another one he sent me for free, but was mad his guys had cut the shaft on the wide front he sold me.
