2000 Farm Auction

I might have posted this jigsaw before but its one of my favourite shots. I spent many years working in that farm yard so it was with mixed feelings I helped out at the auction sale of all the machinery in April 2000. Made a good few trips to town with that red Turnco wagon loaded with 200 bushels of wheat. 20 mile round trip behind the 930 Case. Plenty of seat time in the field on the six speed 930. Combined a few acres with that 542 Cockshutt combine I'm standing on to take the photo. I regret not buying that little Case six foot breaking disk parked behind the auctioneer's truck. I had used it enough to know just how well it worked. I'll post the pic for those that can't be bothered with a jigsaw.

Do you have a photo close up of the 6 ft breaking disc? I'm interested in its structure and also its detailed use. Was it used for cutting breaking sod?

The auction was probably for a neighbor or family member. Looks like a good attendance.

Yes that's a very nice photo. Tells a story albeit maybe sad, but maybe a retirement with no one taking over.

It was an excellent disk with notched blades for breaking bushland and new ground. I don't have any closer pictures but do have an operators manual for one.
I'd worked for that neighbour off and on since 1969. The land had been sold. I had the option to buy but did not need it. As it happened another six quarters just fell on me a couple of years later when my uncle died so I had all I could handle.

Second saddest day of my life was when Mother had an auction to sell Pa's equip. He had died a year earlier. Ten years after that I sold my garbage hauling co. and started farming the family farm. Had to buy all different equipment.

(quoted from post at 10:04:21 04/22/23) Everytime I get done putting this one together, I want to go find the lunch stand and get a hot dog.

Thats for sure and I miss those days of live auctions with good food and people to visit with during the auction. Now we sit and watch it on a screen in our house. And pay a buyers premium to do it. This is another pic of the auction showing the old house. It rained that morning and the roof was leaking so we had to put a tarp on it as that was where the lunch was served.

Man I miss auctions. It was dads hobby, he dragged me along when I was 5 or 6, well I was in the car seat before he was I wasnt being dragged along. :)

Sure miss them. We lost so much the past 4 years.

Thanks for the pics.

Paul

Rusty,
Thanks for the picture. That looks like a double one-way. I can see why that would be good in brush and other heavy vegetation.
