Must be those seeds got there then. I couldn't remember if she mailed them Wednesday or yesterday. And here I sit waiting for a check that had to come from 35 miles away for a load of cattle that I sold almost two weeks ago.

I hope those tomatoes do the trick for you. She was getting pretty impatient too, waiting for them to come from another grower. Hers were getting old and she wanted some newer ones for you.

Seed age is an interesting topic in itself. I started 3 kinds of tomatoes this year, six seeds for each variety. One year old Early Sub Arctic seeds .... all six germinated in about 6 days. Fifteen year-old Manitoba and Cherry Yellow ones took about 11 days longer but all of those made it and are doing well. I'm surprised that all of the old ones germinated. I won't plant those next year, hard to say if the plants from the older seeds drop off in fruit production or not. I think that I have read that can be expected.

She's got two big totes full of heirloom beans in packages. Some of those are dated from back in the 90s. Somebody needs to plant some of those and get some new seed before the breeds disappear from the face of the Earth.

On the subject of old seeds, my neighbors' mothers found some seeds that she had kept from tomatoes that they always reseeded every year. The last time she grew tomatoes was in 1988 the year her husband died. A few years ago she found the seed and they grew perfect, now we keep the seed every year also. She says the tomatoes taste just like the ones her husband grew. ( btw she is 92 and going strong. she still cans green beans we give her)
