I helped move a cabin years ago from a place in Kentucky.
It was on a steep hill like that in the mountains.

part and the people live in the higher
part? Thats a European thing. Thats the
way my grandparents farm was in Belgium.
House, barn, granary and machine storage,
all connected.

Since there is a gate and not a door in the opening I would call it a barn. Perhaps the upper level is for crop storage.
