They don't kill the vine before digging? When I dug taters in CO and saw them dug in ID they killed the vines as they called it with acid then dug so they didn't have all the trash going through the harvester. We would still get the occasional tumble weed in it though. They also dug 4 rows and dropped between 2 rows then we would load the 6 rows on the truck as we dug the 2 rows. Been about 25-30 year since I did that. Probably all changed now days to 8 row digger loader or bigger.
 
Up here, I don't know if they're running a six row digger on each side and dumping to the middle, then a six row harvester, or if all three are 8 row, but they make quite a swath across a field in one pass.
