Question about my Ford 8N lower left arms

Is there anyone that makes an extended lower left arm for the Ford 8N, or is there one for a different model that will fit the 8N. I have run into several instances now where the PTO shaft is too long to hook up the implement (yesterday I had the same problem with a 4 foot Rotary tiller). If anyone knows a solution, besides cutting and welding, I would love to hear it.

You can have someone weld a section into your current arms. But the better solution is to make the pto shaft fit the tractor.,not modify the tractor....

If you don't want to cut the PTO shafts to fit you could check into adding a quick hitch depending on how much extra length you need. A three point
quick hitch or the lower link quick hitch adaptors will add a few inches. The lower link adaptors will require a longer top link.

You need to make you implement PTO shaft shorter. This is a common problem with tractors using a ORC coupler. The implement shaft needs to be short enough to telescope a few inches to allow easier hookup and also when crossing a ditch or depression. If it had no clearance then, either somthing could break or it can damage the snap rings holding the shaft to its bearings in the tractor. That will allow the shaft to be jerked out of the tractor. The correct and safe way to solve your problem is to CUT AND SHORTEN THE IMPLEMENT SHAFT.

Should not be any welding involved in shortening the PTO shaft, AND the instruction manual for the implement should detail how to go about it.

It is not unusual to have to cut a few inches out of the PTO shaft on a new implement.

I had the same problem trying to hitch my finish mower to the MF 35 I bought. I think the 35 lift arms are the same as the 8N. My solution was to adapt a pair of MF 65 lift arms, that I had, to the 35. They are about 3.5 inches longer. I had to make bushings for end that attached to the tractor. 3/4 inch pipe worked for that.

shorten the PTO shaft, this is a common practice when purchasing new equipment. Cut an equal amount off of each side of the PTO shaft, a to long PTO shaft will
cause issues when you lift the implement. good luck

This mower was bought for a 3400 Ford. It only took me a couple of minutes to make the drive shaft
shorter to fit my 8n. If your not comfortable doing that or it isn't your equipment, just go to
Tractor Supply or some such and buy a shorter drive shaft. To answer your question, yes, longer
arms can be mounted, but other parts will probably have to be changed to make the geometry correct.

Tractor Supply just sells generic length PTO shafts. You'll most likely have to cut the shaft even if you buy another one.

Yes, changing the length of the lower arms will require an equally longer top link to maintain the geometry and let the mower lift level.
