Lawn Mower tires

Can someone explain mower tire sizes to me please. My 345 Deere mower has 23x10.50-12 rear tires that are rotted away. I found 24x12-12 tires. Will they work on my rims? Is 23 the width and 10.50 the height of the tire? Thanks, Chris

23 is the height of the tire 10.50 is the width and 12 is the rim dia. the 24 x 12 12 will work if you have the clearance as they will be 2 inches wider and a inch taller

I had one of the original tires on my 345 rot out in a seam. Replaced them with Carlisle ag bar tires and its was a big improvement. Also loaded them with windshield washer fluid. Size was not a problem - just find the same size.

Shop around Amazon, sometimes they sell tires and tubes at a good price.

I just bought a set of 23x10.50-12 Cub Cadet wheels and tires.
Including fronts for $150.
Like new, saw an ad on facebook marketplace from a guy selling his garden tractor pulling project.I
He had fancy aluminum rims and cut tires on it.
I inquired if he had the original steel rims and tires.
He did and we made a deal.

If you don't want to spend the money for new, look on fbmp and Craigslist.

Just confirm what the offset is from the backside as they vary between different brands and models.

They will fit the rims, but watch for clearance at the deck, and at castors wheels. On my front deck I went up to 26x12-12 because I had them, the step on the deck was in the way so I had to trim it.

The tires I was looking at were on a auction. I didn't get them, they brought new price. Thanks anyhow, now I know how to read them. Chris

We take the new tires off and install ATV tires . To improve mower traction .

I have ATV Snow Studs on all my riding mower type equipment....old ones I use for domestic chores, not mowing. I select the 2 ply
type and run them at 5 PSIG for a soft ride. Works really well for both traction and ride.

I'd caution you about changing the tire height. As you raise the rear of the mower with a taller tire, you'll change the pitch (rake) of the deck and it WILL affect cutting performance. Before you switch to a 24" tire, make sure you have at least 0.5" [(24-23)/2=0.5] of adjustment on the rear deck hangers. Measure your deck before the swap, and match it after. Another thing to consider is trim-ability you re moving from a 10.5" wide tire to a 12" wide tire, you'll lose 0.75" of trim on the left side of the machine. Not sure about Deere but on our smaller units, the outside edge of the tire is the same width as the cutting deckmakes it a real pain to trim anything if the tires are wider than the deck. A wider tire also means lower ground pressure, which can mean more sliding down hills and more turf tearing when turning around. Do what you will, just some factors to consider.
