Oil question

I have found a sealed 30 gal drum of Schaeffers SAE 30 API CF/CF-2/SJ 100% pure paraffin base motor oil. I can have it for free and wondering if this would be safe to use in old tractors, like 1930's 40's? I know most will say it's your machine, use whatever you want. But I have never seen 100% pure paraffin base written clearly on a container and didn't want to use something that may cause problems. What's everyone's opinion on this oil?

I use a few Schaeffer products. Tube grease and chain lube. I like it.

If you have doubts on using it in your tractors, contact the company. They've been in business since 1839, so their products must be fairly good.

I know nothing about that particular oil.but I do know the railroad company I work for switched to Schaeffer oil for ALL its machinery, including hydraulic, and gear oil and grease .even went to 500 hours between oil changes from 300 hours since the switch

The word paraffin, meaning a saturated hydrocarbon based oil. Almost all motor oils contain, or, are mostly paraffin's (alkanes), including Group I, II, III, IV.
The above from the internet, I would have no worries using it in anything that called for SJ and below. This is what people are looking for in their flat tappet engines.I am thinking I would mix it thoroughly. Schaeffers IMO has a very good product.

As they said, 100% good to go for old tractors. Additives tend to settle out over time. Turn it upside down for a while, then sideways and roll it every now and then. Shaffer is top shelf oil and top shelf priced.

Thanks everyone! I knew Schaeffers made excellent products, but was unsure about using this particular oil. Sounds like I got a heck of a deal since it was free and a very expensive drum of oil.

The fact it meets cf-2 means its a very good HD diesel oil with lots of additives. I would not hesitate to use it in my tractor. Only the fact its a 30 wt might worry me if its below 20 degrees or above 100 degrees. Otherwise you could do a lot worse.
