And the good feeling
And the good food
Knock er out in a day

Thanks for posting, I've experienced that as a kid. Leo

Yep, when Grandpa died in 1952, all the area farmers brought their tractors and pull type combines and cut the wheat for the family.
Our son has helped other farmers with work when something happens.
When a tornado hit our place 9 years ago, there were folks with saws and loader tractors here within an hour to help us.

Been on both sides of that fence. Loved being able to help neighbors in time of need.

Also honored and greatly humbled when it was my turn on the receiving end. Beans were done by neighbors when my dad fell ill at the start of beans and passed in November when I had a bunch of corn to do. One neighbor asked me as guys were asking before they put machines away. After talking I realized the neighbors wanted to and as much as I needed the help they would also get the warm feeling of helping. Elevator was having problems keeping up and was limiting receiving. They closed down to all but my corn for a day so things could go well. Just thinking about it as I type has something in my eyes (good tears).

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!

50 days ago?? So this guys corn didn't get harvested until mid January? That'd be rather late in my neighborhood/area. Most are done by late October/early November. Guessing you just didn't put the math to it, when you put the words together. LOL.

People get together and do this in my area too. Often times putting thiers on hold, and doing someone elses like this first. Of course with a whole bunch of people pitching in, they can knock it out in a day or two most times. Leaving thier own operations for only a day or two, ussualy not that big of an absence from thier own operations. People ussually just get after it, and get it done.

I personally don't get in on these type engagements, because I don't have my own harvest equipment to furnish and throw at it. Have offered my time and labor a couple times to help the family out, but then something like this (in the photo) happens. Ussually as a suprize to the family, and a big right up in the news paper.

I'm ussually in a grain truck or combine come harvest time. Just not my own. I begin with driving trucks for my renter. And then go on to help 2 or 3 others during harvest.

I've done that a few times. Also helped a beginning farmer a couple times when they didn't have adequate equipment to get the job done on time. My theory is, if you are able to help someone in need, do it.

Heartwarming to see that when it happens. Back when I still had my mail route, I witnessed that once for a local farmer on my route who had health issues. Several combines and trucks, both big and small, over there taking his crop out. Gave you a warm feeling just watching that happen!

Yeah I was around when I was on the receiving end for corn (see post below). I made sure the truck was pm site so nobody went home with less fuel then when they came.

you Iowans may be good people but bad mathematicians! (lets not forget you drive thru flooded roads!)

Had a couple years, one fairly recently, when the corn didn't get harvested until March.

It started raining in mid september and didn't stop until it started snowing in november, and didn't stop until late february of the next year.

Neighbors and friends did it for Dad when my brother passed in '72.He didn't absolutely need the help but his heart wasn't in the job...

I have been on the receiving end of this.

I had hay down I planned to bale late Saturday afternoon. Went to water park with my Sons Saturday morning. Broke my ankle. I called one neighbor and asked him to rake and bale it for me on Monday.

Monday morning I had another neighbor call and offer. He had sold his equipment but was willing to use mine to get it done. My Sons were not old enough to be trusted with the equipment.
