Kubota L3000DT oil type

I am doing an oil change job on a friends L3000, and I was wondering what type of oil I should use? The guy at the parts store said 15W40, which is what I got, but after looking around on the web a bit, their seems to be a number of oil types that are options. It doesn't even look like the Kubota has 15W40 listed as an option for the L3000, but I have seen it listed as an acceptable alternative in other places. I still have the reciept, so I am fine with returning what I have if I need to. Just wondering what the folks here have to say, and what they have used in their tractors. Any thoughts and suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry, should have explained what kind of enviroment the tractor is operating in. It is used a about three times a year for brush hogging, and they also use it for blading the driveway and other misc. jobs. the tractor is located in Missouri.

Doesn't this guy have an owner's/operator's manual? If not, give a Kubota dealer a call. OK, after having said that, I'll share my
Kubota experience. I owned a Kubota M6800 open-station tractor for 20 years. Purchased it brand new. Owner's manual specified 10W30
engine oil. I wanted to use Shell Rotella but the farm store only had Rotella in 15W40. Called Kubota dealer and they said go ahead
use the 15W40. Sometime afterward I found Shell Rotella in 10W30 at Menard's so I switched to that. In heavy-duty brush hogging in
summer temps I noticed the engine was running about 2 needle widths cooler than with the 15W40. I had a stash of 15W40 left so I
did an experiment. I tried both on the same day. I had nothing better to do, so, what the heck. Sure enough, the tractor ran about
2 needle widths cooler with the 10W30. The oil recommended by Kubota. That's all I have to say. Good bye.

Any thoughts and suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

I think my power train is under a 5 year warranty.
My dealer does my work.

If I had any questions I would call jm, a retired kubota dealer.

This from Kubota USA website, no guarantees it is correct for your tractor.
DIESEL ENGINE - OIL VISCOSITY RECOMMENDATIONS
OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE Below 32 F (0 C) Above 32 F (0 C)
SAE/Viscosity 10W-30 10W-30 or 15W-40
GASOLINE ENGINE - OIL VISCOSITY RECOMMENDATIONS
OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE Below 32 F (0 C) Above 32 F (0 C)
SAE/Viscosity 5W-20 or 5W-30 10W-30 or 15W-40

If it's a newer tractor with low hours I would use the lower viscosity of the recommended oil. In our JD4600 I used 5-30 for the
first 500 hours, since then I use 15-40, but I always pre-heat it if it's below 32F, and I rarely use it when below 0F. But it will
start, anytime!

That's an interesting test, Bill, I have heard that before. A friend tried different oils in a Honda 4-wheeler, he found it ran cooler with lighter oil.

As as retired KUBOTA dealer I do not really like to get in to these things because there is always someone wanting to argue. That being said the recommended oil 10/30 will in fact run cooler, as it is going thru the engine faster and extracts some of that top heat to the oil pen. Before someone argues nothing wrong i with 15/40 and in older used stuff it really has it's place . Newer oils are far superior to what we had 20 years ago.

I have 4 of the orange machines
I have used Motorcraft 10W30 Diesel oil for many years
and have not had any issues
I get it at Local Ford Dealer
