Looking for a good air chisel I've bought cheap ones they lasted a while I'm not sure if the more you spend it will last longer a co worker has a Snap-On and he is not very happy with it..

I bought a long barrel Chicago pneumatic in 1972 and used it hard for forty years. Think I gave about 70 bucks for it. What ever you get buy the long one, short ones just make noise.

I also have the long barrel CP 715 Zip Gun that I bought in the early 90s. I used it a LOT doing suspension work and still use it a lot and it still has the same power as when I bought it. A co-worker bought a new one, can't remember if it's a Matco or a Mac, long barrel. My old CP still has more power than his brand new one.

I have an old Powermate that I've had for about 25 years. I think it's the older version of this:

Among other things, I chipped out a solid concrete chimney from an old building. Concrete had really set up, as full blows from the blunt side of a splitting maul just bounced off. The chimney went from ground, main floor and attic before exiting the roof. Had to take it all out so the building could be moved.

Main thing is, KEEP AIR TOOLS OILED!

I have rebuilt (cleaned) many air tools that people have said were broken, busted, trash, but all they needed was to be oiled and, in some cases cleaned. I was astonished at how many people never even oiled their air tools. Not much surprises me anymore. Just takes a drop or two every so often.

I recently bought a Chief brand from Harbor Freight. I've only used it a couple times so it's to soon to tell how long it will last. It's done everything I've asked of it so far.

Long stroke CP. Bought in about 1981. Still works after a lot of hard use. Wasn't cheap then. Long stroke is now called air hammer. I would get either an Ingersoll Rand or Chicago Pneumatic. Both are good.

few drops of air tool oil every time you use one will make any air chisel last a long time.

Agreed. I have 3 different sizes for different purposes. For serious heavy work (cutting rivet heads or pickle fork) you want the largest bore and stroke you can find. Keep it oiled. They all work the same pretty much. You can't expect a 22 Long Rifle to do the same work as a 30-06 and likewise a 30-06 would vaporize a gopher for no reason.

I had one many years ago, don't remember brand or anything
about it BUT when it quit working it was the switch. Acted
like a broke spring in the switch. Could needing oil have
made it act like that?
