Hearing Aids again

I have posted before re the process. Finally go to Costco today with my audiogram for a pair. So she says why do I want them? I say to hear my daughter. More questions and we both realize I'm not real committed to wearing them from morning to nite. Issue was that if I dont go full on wearing them my brain wont adjust to the idea and I won't be happy. I would appreciate hearing your experience re. getting started. Thanks

If I forget to put in my hearing aids when I leave the house, I'll regret it all day long. I wear mine pretty much all waking hours, except for immediately after I get out of the shower. I also leave them out if I'm boating, skiing or participating in some other activity where I'm likely to lose them.

Note that frequently taking out your hearing aids increases the risk of losing them.

I don't wear them(yet)but I figure they are like my glasses. When I got my first pair(mid 40s)I went straight to bifocals even though the top was plain glass. I was going to wear them all of the time or not at all.

I wear mine pretty much all day. Exceptions being running noisy equipment, lawnmower, snow blower, chain saw and the like. Also take them out for a quick charge during my after lunch nap. Had mine three and one half years. Wife says its the best investment weve made in recent years. Medicare supplement paid for over half the price so they were very affordable. Cant believe how much I was missing in general conversation. Good luck with your decision.

Mine quit working one day, so I went to the audiologist. He took a pair of tweezers to my ear, pulled out the item, and said it looked like a suppository. Didn't take him long to find my hearing aid.......

Wear them as you want. Makes no difference. Some days you will leave them out, some times you will wear them all day and into the evening. I just took mine out at 8:30 and put them in at 630 this am. Wipe the ear piece every night with soft facial tissue. (no lotion type) and swab your ear where they rest. Jim

I wear mine all the time, I take them out cutting wood, or driving my tractor. My problem is, I forget where I put them, when removed. Stan

I have Costco hearing aids and like them. Hearing aids will change your world. I am not going to wear them when i weld and am around loud noise. Something happened to my hearing and i wondered if it was possible to have a magnetic field that would mess them up when welding.. Any way Costco sent them in and i got new ones no charge.

I've worn aids for well over 40 years. Lots of hearing loss so the world is realy quiet without them and with them everything is loud. As long as I wear them all day, things are OK sounding. But, if I don't everything is annoyingly loud, some sounds are almost painful, for a while when I do put them in.

My recommendation, wear them daily.

Especially true if you get the better ones that pair with a cell phone with bluetooth. For the first time in years I can have a phone conversation. Without the aids a phone, cell or landline, is useless to me.

Even better I can adjust the aids using an app on my phone.

I changed doctors this week. When he told me to come back Wed for a blood draw and other tests, one of which was a hearing test, I mentioned I was thinking of getting hearing aids from Costco this year because I had been told they were about the best for the price. He told me that if I could wait a bit, due to a change in the law, I no longer needed a hearing test, and Bose and Sony were going to start offering them online for less. Designed by some of the best audio engineers in the business at a cheaper price. I've decided to wait.

Another vote for all the time.

Only time I take mine out during waking hours is if I'm doing something noisy enough to require hearing protection (wearing muffs over aids doesn't make any sense to me...) or wrassling with my daughter's dogs for fear they'll eat one by mistake.

And showers, of course.

Semi-funny story: I once made a very obvious show of removing them when my wife and her sister were arguing politics. (They're on opposite sides of the aisle). They got the hint...

Even Crutchfield.com ( home and car audio systems) is selling hearing aids now.

Just like eye glasses, the prescription is the key to getting the best tuned hearing aids.

I have had my hearing aids for 4 years now. They were a good investment especially if you ask my wife! I don't put them in first thing in the morning as it is just me and the dog up early enjoying the morning and coffee. I wear them pretty much all the rest of the time unless I am going to be around a lot of noise or down in my garage working. I have one of the small drawers in my toolbox in the garage set aside just for my hearing aids when I take them out. It makes it a lot easier to remember where the heck I put them! If someone stops by to visit while I am in the garage, they are there to make the conversation more enjoyable for me.

I put mine in as soon as I get up in the morning and wear them till bedtime. The tinnitus is real bad some days and having them in seems to reduce it even when it's quiet. I have the full ear molds so I can shut them off for noisy work and they will block most of the sound. Workman's comp covers the cost and I purchased the sound streaming system for the TV. They're good but I still have trouble understanding speech and have to rely on a good deal of lip reading.

I don't have a Costco close so that was out of the question. Went to local audiologist and got INsignia brand, wear them all the time, makes momma happy. I really like that they are bluetooth compatable, you can get whatever music to play from your smart phone whenever, plus it makes the phone hands free for a call. Dr showed me a study that said there is a correlation between hearing loss and dementia, may be a selling tool but why chance it.

Mine are Miracle Ear. They do the job around the house and keeps the bride happy. I don't use them around the barn, when sawing wood, driving the tractor. I have one place in the barn where they stay unless I have a visitor, I try to get them in when I see someone coming down the lane. Welding sets up the most unbelievable screeching you can imagine. My ears with hearing aids feel like I just drove down a steep hill, a little stopped up. In social settings or just for communication they are a necessity.

I use them because the wife insists. The audiologist told us I have profound hearing loss. They do not help me much. I hear birds better which is nice but I also hear a bunch of crap I would rather not hear, foot shuffling for instance. One quit working so I find one more useful. I hear stuff with my ear without the aid that helps me. My mother taught me to speak up when talking to someone with a hearing problems. What happened to that? The audiologist says no one does that anymore.

Thanks for all the replies. Good idea to have a container to store them in the shop or out of the house. Yes its a female issue. I am outside a lot so will see if taking them out for long periods will make them less effective. Again the scheduler was really firm on wearing them all day to train the brain?

Had mine about 5 yrs. Wear all the time EXCEPT when working outside in warm weather. I sweat lots. Mine short out in less than an hour once I begin sweating. Must put in their dryer for remainder of the day so I can wear for the evening. So just don't wear outside in summer.
