Starting a Field Marshall

A lot easier to start than the Lanz. I remember the movie Flight of the Phoenix where Jimmy Stewart fired up the mono plane they built. Got to clear the cylinders.

The D-4 setting beside it, would start about as fast and would pull more with less HP to do it. IT looked just like the D-4 we have and at 40 or so HP we can pull 6-16's with it about 8-12 inches deep. I've plowed with it for many years on lots of acres.

Just had a generator on most of them, a fairly rare version had a starter and a battery but I never saw one in the flesh.

That chap was being a bit excessive swinging her over like that, I just used to set the arrow on the flywheel to the start position, pull the decompressor over one track on the flywheel, set the cartridge start valve which was just turn half a turn, taper and cartridge in and BOOM, thump, thump, thump.....

On a two furrow plough they will plough all day on about six gallons of diesel. I did a lot of ploughing with a single furrow deep digger going in about 14 to 18. At that time you were expected to plough that deep for sugar beet.
