Allis Chalmers WD45 carb

Hello. I have a Marvel Shebler TSX 464 carb off a WD45 and taken apart. The sides of the float appear to be caved in, is this normal?

No, they should be slightly convex.

A float can be crushed by backfire with the choke closed, or blowing into
the bowl with a blow gun.

In addition to the good info from Steve,
water freezing in the float bowl can
crush the float, as well.

It should look similar to this one out of a TSX 155, which is a ''small bowl'' MS carb.

I've seen that myself up here north of the 49th. I think the float should still work as long as it hasn't sprung a leak and has liquid inside.
