MM V Hanging Between Gears

I have a MM model V. When I try to shift from 1st to reverse the transmission hangs between gears. Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Billy

Most likely the same thing as Farmalls.Common deal. The little 'ball' on the end or the shift lever gets worn and slips out of the shift rails. Just remove the shift lever and build up the 'ball' with weld. Grind to fit.

I'm sure they all have a little different design but on my Oliver there are just two bolts holding the shift lever to the top of the transmission. The trick is to not lose the two springs down the hole into the transmission when you take it out!

On a Farmall, there is pin to drive out.It is at where the shifter goes into the transmission. Not hard.Your tractor is most likely similar.

What do you mean by "hangs between the gears?"

Describe what you are doing, and what happens. How do you get the gear "unhung" to get it into the next gear?

The "Farmall problem" they're describing is the tractor getting stuck in two gears at once. That may not be the same issue you are having.

Its been nearly 30 years since I worked on one of those, but I am thinking you will have to drain the oil and take the side plate off below the shifter and see what shape it is in. The shift forks are on that cover.

The one I worked on the detent balls were in little sheet metal cages-they looked kinda like rifle cartridges- and the back had come off-rusted off- one of the cages.
