1981 Ford F-100, 300 inch six cylinder. Works off the cam, bolt on the block. I just replaced the fuel pump with a Precision brand from O'Reilly auto parts. I made it about two miles and had to walk home. Put the old fuel pump back on to get home. O'Reilly replaced it and I put it on the truck and drove around the hay fields. Hasn't quit yet but I am going to take it on the road when my wife can follow me. Made in the land of almost right. I really don't have much confidence in the one I just put on. Does anyone know an excellent brand they would recommend? Thanks, Ellis

How did the first fuelpump fail, leak or fail to pump? How about the replacement?

Is it possible there's a piece of some sort of debris that's intermittently stopping up the fuel flow from the tank?

I know it means re-plumbing, but I have gotten hooked on the benefits of electric pumps. Maybe because my old gas trucks sit for a long time. A tired battery doesn't want to crank long enough for a mechanical fuel pump to prime a system.

Rock Auto has a Carter, that's a good brand, or used to be. That would be my choice of all the options offered.

There are a lot of knock off brands out there that are poor quality, Airtex being one of the worst.

Did you check the fuel lines between the tank and pump? Could be a rust hole, or a rotten, collapsed rubber line. There is another rubber line at the tank. There may also be a sock filter in the tank, and a filter screwed into the carb.
