How is this possible? The old tire on the left side is holding air(actually the tube is).

Be VERY careful! I bought a pair of liners to try to save a pair of rare 9x40 tires. I inflated those and left for
a little while. When I came back, one had exploded with so much force that it blew one fender right off. It hit
the seat so hard that it put a dent in it. If I'd have had my head between there, it would have decapitated me.

I agree, some things just used to be made
to last. My dad has a truck he got when he
was eighteen (he is 78). The truck has
never ran in that time. I wanted to move
it. Tires were flat and had wide cracks.
He said air them up and drag it out. I
said there is no way that will work. All
four aired up and held. I just put enough
pressure to make them somewhat round but
there is no way that would work with tires
made today.

Do you think this will pass the DOT? This one held air for a day or so until I let it go. Another one didn't make it through the night. I think one out of six were keepers?? Cleddy

Years ago back in the late '70s I was working on the engine of a semi when one of the rear tires suddenly
made a noise, developed a big ol balloon on the sidewall, and then after a few minutes, we let the air
out. Mark.

you should see some of the old tires that we have on wagons. All old truck tires. Those cheap implement tires will not hold like that. IF I as you I would let the tire flat again, and wrap the tire with something like an old tire tread or such. Then wrap a rope around all of it to hold the tube from blowing out then reinflate to roll it with and fairly hard. Will roll easier than a flat till you got the old tires off or new ones on. Though I would get it running and put tires on about last.
