Cerial boxes

How many save cerial boxes? I usually have two or three on hand. Use for gaskets,or pattern makeing. Pretty handy product that is FREE.

I always have 2 or 3 boxes in the pantry. If I need one I just pull the plastic bag out of one and use it. Bag works fine for storage with a chip clip.

I use cereal and other cardboard boxes for gaskets, of course, and for making patterns. I also cut them into little squares to use as a place to mix epoxies. I also use the squares as a little tray when I mix powdered meds with cat food when needed to treat abscesses. In a pinch, I've even used the boxes to make price tags for gunshow stuff if I'm short on regular tags. And most cardboard thickness is useful in setting the points gap in small-engine ignitions.

For pattern making, I've moved to file folders. They are a little stiffer than cereal boxes, and plain on both sides. A little thin for most gaskets, though. But perfect for air gap setting on small engine flywheels. steve

When I went to steam school years ago, we were told cereal boxes make great steam gaskets, even for the heads on the engines.

File folders make good gasket material too. I have my Dads gasket scissors and I dont know how old they are but they are still sharp and cut very well. I can just make out a name on them, it looks like Clauss. After searching, Clauss is still in business and is a huge company. The gasket snips are actually light metal snips. Machinist snips I suppose. These are at least seventy years old. Check out Claussco.com they have every scissor and shear imaginable.

We use them for pistol targets not much good left to use when we are done with them. but it is fun. Randy

I used to and still will on some things. Otherwise I have gotten away from them. It seemed like I had some trouble with the shiny finished side not sealing on some things as well. So for regular gaskets I just use gasket material. Got a bunch of it from other jobs and use the left overs.

I still have several old Wheaties boxes from when Pete Rose broke the hit record. Not sure why i still have them along with a large collection of old cardboard ammo boxes.
