JCB 520 push

A coworker today pushed a non running JCB 520 loadall about a half a mile. The JCB has all wheel drive, all wheel steering, and a hydrostatic transmission. It was extremely hard to push and took everything the 5075 JD had to push it.

What can be damaged by pushing a loadall like that? And no, Im not ratting on him.

Most machines with a hydro should have a release to bypass the drive system to move them. This is only for a short distance or serious damage could occur. I am not familier with that brand so I cannot say for sure the correct procedure would be on it. Always check a service or operators manual.

I know nothing about JBC. I do however have a Farmall Hydro 70. Everything I have read says that moving the tractor even a few feet without first shifting the range selector to neutral will cause catastrophic damage to the hydrostatic drive. Again this is an IH, not a JBC so this may not apply.

I know nothing about those machines either, you called it a load all the proper term is a ..Telescopic Forklift.. sometimes referred to as a ..tele-handler.. I am going to say it is likely something was severely damaged in the hydrostatic drive motors. If I had to bet I would say far more likely damage occurred than it is all fine and will work like before.

Transmission could be trashed, but it all depends on how it was pushed. Maybe he got lucky.

If it was pushed with the tires skidding, it's probably okay. Same if it was pushed with one wheel turning backwards on each axle. In either case the transmission isn't turning.
