working on 2014 f150 v 6 automatic transmission gas truck. It has 140k miles on it. As I am driving down the road it seem to have a shutter in the transmission as it is trying to change gears or something or the converter is locking and unlocking very quickly. Has anyone heard of such problems with the ford transmissions,
Thanks
Dale

I work for a government fleet and we have had to replace several torque converters. It feels like a spot in the road where a bulldozer has been.

NC farmer that is exactly what it feels like. Will the torque fail suddenly or will it just stop locking up. Do you think I can drive it for a while like this

I had a 2011 F150 with a V6 ecoboost and it was doing the same when driving down the highway. Did a scan and found it was a coil pack misfiring. Felt like the transmission but a new coil pack fixed it.

Yes they are famous to shudder, It is also called wash boarding.
If it has to do with the transmission Something you can try is Dr. tranny instant shudder fix. YES its snake oil but a good snake oil, if that's your problem and it helps all you can do to the resolve the problem cheap is do a transmission fluid change and cross yer fingers.

If you are to cheap to pay a pro to diagnose it that would be my first guess. A guess is all you are gonna get without at the least us driving it.

Had that problem on two Mercury's. A trans fluid and filter change fixed the problem for the next 30,000 miles. Make sure you drain the torque converter also.

I had a '93 Lincoln that did the shudder thing. I took it to the dealer and they were happy to see it. It was the first one they had seen. Fixed it right up. Oil change.

I had a 2005 Ford Expedition the transmission failed and my mechanic replaced it with a rebuilt one. Shortly after I experienced the exact symptoms you describe so I took it back to my mechanic who test drove it and agreed with me that it was the transmission. He had me take it to the transmission place and after much testing they determined it wasn't the transmission but a bad coil and spark plug. they replaced both and the problem was gone.

My 05 Ranger was doing that since I got it in 2016 w 100,000 on it. I could kind of prevent it if I babied it. Added a tube of Lube Guard Anti Shutter to it 2 years ago not expecting much. 16,000 miles later the shutter is gone. It didn't happen all at once, but got progressively better until it disappeared. It currently has 153,000 on it.
