John Deere 10, 20, 30 series Steering valves.

Its been a while since I have been here, probable 8 or ten years. I have a question for the John Deere brain trust. I am rebulding several steering valves and looking through all my manuals there are conflicting valve settings. The 10 series manual says there are two valve styles an early and late. I personally have never seen an early valve. The components look very different. The settings are opposite between these two valves according to the manual. Is this correct? Also the 10 series manual states the neutral tool is .050 for both early and late valves. While the late 20 series manual states the setting is .030. Is the 10 series manual a misprint? I am using a tool that is .030. I have used it for years and have not had a problem. Can someone clear this up for me? Thanks, Travis

Before I had the correct tool I used 0.030 feeler gauges and some heavy flat iron, never a problem. I have seen the misprint also. Just adjust like you did before, 0.003 on the first and third valve and 0.001
on second and last valve.

The tool is .030. It bolts to the bottom of the valve to hold the valve in neutral. The actual valve setting is .003 return and .001 pressure.
