Thanks to the suggestion by Athol Carr, I was able to search and find this beast. It's a Lanz Landbaumotor produced in Germany around 1917.

Apparently these were originally designed to be used as cultivators. You cannot see the cultivator very well in the Pics photo, but here is a video that shows a very similar machine with cultivator in action:
