Stihl MS311 vs MS360pro

I bought an MS360pro on an online suction last night. Dunno much about saws beyond using them to make firewood and clear fencelines. I am gonna keep both and see which one I grab more, then sell the other one. I assume the 360 is gonna win. Any bets?

Used to be the even numbered saws were the professional versions. Unless there is some problem with the 360, I would think it will perform better, and maybe weigh less.

That was when the saw models started with a 0. Then they moved the 0 from the front to the back. 036 became the MS360, then the MS361, and currently MS362. 031 became the MS310, then the MS311.

MS360 is a professional saw. MS311 is a farmer/rancher saw. Both are ~60cc saws. 311's are heavy for their displacement, and not as highly tuned as the 360.

I have a 260, 360 and a 361, the anti-vibe on the newer (361) is a lot better.

Use the 360 plenty as well but its not the first one I grab.

Wow! This old super XL Homelite was with the MS360pro at the auction. The fuel tank smelled like it had not seen fuel since the Clinton administration. Just for kicks, I splashed a lil gasoline mix into the tank and gave it a few pulls. IT STARTED! Runs real nice actually. I even took it out and made a few cuts with it. I could hardly believe it.

I have a MS 311 that is my everyday go to saw for firewood cutting. I paid $225 for it at the neighbors auction several years ago. I have cut several hundred face cord
of wood with it with only a few minor breakdowns. I run a 20 inch bar on it. If i need a bigger saw i grab my Jonsered 2166.

If the 360 is as good as the new 036 has been that I bought many years ago, it would be my go-to
saw.

Hard to say... The 360 is a pro saw vs the 311 being a farm saw... so 360 should be better or more durable. It has good power for
it's size and weight. THe downside of all the older Stihls is the air filters plugging... which you will probably find a lot less
problematic on the 311. I couldn't believe the difference with our 441 compared to the 360 or 44 in that regard.

I have a MS311 and MS361 both are great
saws the 361 has more power and cuts just
a tad faster .I also have a 029 and a 251
I use them according to what size wood I'm
cutting. They all work great with almost
zero issues.

What will burn up a saw faster than anything is a #1 dull chain and a carb that is not adjusted correctly for the fuel mix and air temperature or air leaks.

Those old Homelites are tough saws. My go to farm or fencing saws, always cheap at a sale and they dont seem to grow legs like a newer
saw. The rubber fuel line in the tank is usually failing if they wont start or stay running.
