Problem governor absolutely doesn't work.
With carb unhooked, governor doesn't do
anything. Seems unhooked inside. Does
anyone know what I need to take off to get
it apart to fix it. Thanks Vic

From what I can see in the pic it looks to be a K241 which is a 10 hp engine. Sounds like the cross shaft tab on the governor arm shaft is broken. Take the governor arm off the shaft and unscrew the brass nut that fits over the shaft. The shaft will slide right out if the tab broke. If the cross shaft is still intact then the governor gear might have flew apart. Either way you'll find out pretty quick when you unscrew the brass nut from the block. I rebuilt my K321 this spring and I put a tack weld on the tab to reinforce it.

I think the cross shaft can be replaced with just taking the oil pan off. If the gear flew apart then the crank and cam shaft will have to come out.

I was given a lawn mower with the same problem, it was a plastic gear that was broken, possibly from overfilling it with oil. The local part store had the gear for a good price, runs great now!
