What can I do with...OT

A computer power supply.

Scrapping out a few obsolete computers, thinking there ought to be SOMETHING I can do with them (or one, anyway).

Thoughts?

I dub around with various electronics projects from time to time. A computer power supply will provide multiple 5vdc and (If I remember correctly) 12vdc outputs which are handy for breadboarding projects.

I also have one that I use to drive a motor I got off Amazon with a miniature drill chuck on it, via a variable speed drive. I use it quite a bit on my modeling projects when VERY small drill bits are needed.

I've used them for battery chargers, DC power sources (12v, often 5v, and other voltages obtainable with a cheap buck or boost converter) and you could probably do electrolysis with one if you had a need for it.

They are switching rather than linear power supplies, so their output is not particularly clean and they produce no voltage if they're not under load. This limits what you can do with them.

While your scrapping the computers, take the hard drives apart and get some high powered magnets out of them. I use them for the side of my tool box and stick nut drivers and other tools that are most used often etc. They are powerful magnets.
