knowledge is worth sharing but.....

I have been a follower of this site for a long time. Do I post alot? No, why because I dont have as much knowledge as others. When I do have knowledge of something I read what has been posted and ad what I can. As a rule I believe the site has one of the best forum systems. The one issue we seem to have in cycles is the people who feel their opinion is the only one of value or is the only right answer. We seem to be in one of those cycles lately.
Fellas if someone is posting a question on the forums it is because they are looking for knowledge. The correct way to respond is if you have experience in the subject or are educated in the field you post your answer to the question. THAT IS IT!!! It is not a wizzing contest to see who can out do who. If you answer the post then if poster has a question they will ask you to elaborate. Remember it is their post. It is them to glean the wheat from the chaff. We have to suppose that the poster has some knowledge, goes with interest in any subject. If a debate is to be started it should be by them. They never asked if you had the only answer or the ultaminate answer. Just answer the question and let the others do the same.
Maybe the authorities should start looking at posts that are instigating a discussion and ask them to take it to another place. A new forum titled Mine is bigger ego. As someone who reads posts its hard to take anyones response seriously if they are tearing another a new one. We dont have to agree but this isnt the place to argue the rights and wrongs. That being said. Lets start a new round and not come out of the corners fighting.

Well said ,, I have really back off answering questions because of just what you said. At 80 years of age I sure do not have time for arguments. Lots of smart folks on here for sure.

you are correct there mike. from what i have seen there is people just wanting to post just for the sake of maybe adding their post count up. if i am looking for answer i want in depth description of what i need to look for or do, not a vague answer , or maybe its this. but also the poster should keep in touch and communicate with the ones trying to help and yes its their post so pay attention to it if your looking for info. there is lots of smart ones here willing to help each other out. electricians, mechanic's, engineers, and so on, and i am always amazed at the amount of traffic on the ih farmall forums, all the others combined dont come close.

Couldn't agree more. I only post what I hope is helpful. Not about to get into any back and forth on a post.

I agree. I usually read a whole discussion, then only comment if I think I can add something. I'm surprised at the number of persons who will basically repeat what someone else has said. I know some people like to hear themselves talk, maybe that goes over into print, as well? That's too much work for me on this keyboard. I think the season has a lot to do with some jumping down others throats. I suppose being behind the keyboard can make one brave, not unlike some behind the wheel!

Hay Mike. Haven't seen you in a while. We'd like to have you in the Old Iron Club if you're interested. Since Blanchard is no more, we're about the only show around.
Old Iron Club

Bob Bancroft,
< I'm surprised at the number of persons who will basically repeat what someone else has said.>

The above statement leads me to believe you use modern view??

Many use classic view and upon reading the first post by the thread creator, they reply. And many do not bother to read any other replies to that original first post.
Thus in modern view the often repeated, nearly identical responses appear.

Randy, good to see you posting again. I would like to be a member very much. I may need some time before I can get involved. Wife is fighting cancer again. 4th time, this time terminal. In my attempts to be a good hubby in august I wore myself to thin. Worked nights and visits in the hospital days not eating proper. I had an accident where I rolled our 09 3/4 ton crew cab long box at near expressway speed. At time of extraction sugar was 43. I broke bone under right eye, cracked spine ruptured 1 disc and damaged 2 ajoining ones then most sadly tore 3 of the 4 big muscles in right rotor cuff. The arm has become nearly useless. But have to get pins put in my neck to support nerves system to get feeling going again. THen good chance of a reverse fake shoulder. Trying to get back in shape to go back to work by end of august. If not I loose my job. Never been without and Im only 56. No retirement to speak of. Last employer before CMU embezzled employee retirements. Not sure if I would qualify for a disability or not. Will not be a person that lives off others. But If I can get active I will be glad.

I also think there is another side of the spectrum.

Seems some of the posters are posting topics that they know are highly controversial. They know this as they are typing the post. And also know what direction it's going to go. They be thinking (let the wars begin), when they press submit. This may happen more so over in Tales. But I have seen it carry on in tractor talk too. I think most users visit both forums.

When it comes to controversial issues, I think the poster is just as responsible for causing havack, than those that respond with argumentative views.

For some people, posting controversial stuff just for the fun of it (to see what happens, how long it will stay up), is just a game to them, unfortunately.

I don't know why, but the issue seems to get worse this time of year. Maybe because of cabin fever. I don't know.

I agree with ya. But I think some of the topic posters are also at fault here as well.

I started here 13 years ago as someone else. I got put in my place and shied away. This site was too good so I came back as me. Ive realized that this place is no different than the coffee clutch at the cafe. There are some that will argue about the proper way to tie your shoes while wearing slip on loafers.

I agree with you .I think some people think a question is a dumb one.But if someone is asking it they don't know the answer.Everyone of us is different.I might have more knowledge on a different subject.Personally I don't know a lot about tractor repair. That is what led me to this site years ago.

Could this be in response to the new guy who posted a tractor question the other day and got several smart mouth, rude answers? That really made me mad. I of course popped off my opinion about that. Unfortunately a few people think that everyone should be as smart as they are. We all started somewhere. I bet that new guy goes somewhere else for answers. It takes the same effort to be nice as to be rude. Surely we can do better.
