Computor problems

I get some emails that go into spam that I want to keep because it should go to someplace like the inbox.. I do not know how to move things out of spam to a different place like the inbox. The computor desides on its own when to delete those messages it thinks are spam but are not. How do i get it to quit loosing the emails I want to keep. Used computor I just bought from dealer and has other problems they cannot fix such as no way to print things I want to print off to keep. It is a tower. Had it back 4-5 times to get it working and they say nothing wrong with it. 70+ mile one way trip to store. First thing is how to stop it from loosing things I want to keep.

Go to your Spam folder and find the message you want to keep. To the right of the message there should be a small blank square box. Click on the box and then an OK symbol and the word More will appear above the list of messages. If you click on the OK symbol the message you want to keep will move immediately to your Inbox. OR, if you click the word More a drop down menu will appear and you can move the message to your Inbox or any other folder

Well for a good working computer we BUILD it with brand new top quality pieces and parts with the help of my brother who has a PHD in computer science , This one i am on he and i took and hour a twenty min drive up to a drive in Mayfield hgt. to Micro center and Bought the BOX the BIG power supply , Mother board sound card momorey card. processor almost the biggest and fastest they had at the time and it was a AMD and did this all for just under 350 bucks , Drove back to my home and a couple screw drivers and about 30 min. it was together he then installed a disc for UMBUTU and let it load that took about and hour , with this system i need no anti virus , no spam blockers and yes it takes a bit to get use to running a Lenx platform BUT to me it is worth it . The War Dept 's lap top got i think nnalert and she has taken it in and dropped a couple hundred on it and it still does not work right . I keep telling her to just stuff the DISK in and rewite with Unbutu like my spare compute has that she is usen as a second one in her office . And oh yea the system is always upgrading for FREE .

The problem is what Pete told you may not apply to the email program and or host you use. You may use Microsoft Outlook or you may have web based mail like Gmail or Yahoo, if you give us what is after the at symbol in your email might help others to chime in who are using the same thing. That way what they tell you directly applies to what you have and shows on your screen. I think you posted this once before not to long ago. What I replied that time was to use the type of system or provider you have as described above. Use that in a Google search ..in x email move mail from spam to hold folder.. Which in this case you would probably first search for how to create a Hold folder. Do you have any relatives or younger friends that could come help you out? About 10 minutes of their time and they would have you fixed up.

Oh boy now what happened?? In Classic the T Vet shows in the list as replying to this thread, but his meanderings are not there when I open it to View. Somebody must have clipped his wires!

Gotta know who your email provider is (e.g. GMail, AOL, MSN), what your email client is (e.g. MS Outlook, Thunderbird, web mail), and (if you know) what protocol (e.g. POP, IMAP, HTTPS) your client uses to access its server.

Note that most email providers filter for spam at the server, so you have to use their web interface to see your spam folder. But email clients also filter for spam, so you might have a second spam folder on your PC. Typically you can tell the server and/or client how strict you want the spam filter to be, and which senders should never be filtered.

Try googling how to move an email in whatever email program you use.

For example, if you use Gmail, then Google: Move email from spam folder to inbox in Gmail... (or Hotmail or Yahoo).

I frequently Google for instructions on how to do something.

Or you could drop and drag them to your inbox. Right click on the email and hold it. Then you drag that email up to the word inbox and release the right click button. It should follow it up there.

Good Morning Leroy,

If you are using yahoo, go to your spam folder and click on the email that you want to move. At the top of the page, click on move. One of the move choices will be to your inbox.

It only came when by old computor got a virous and had to get a different one. And this one the print was large enough for me to read but now it is so small I can hardly read it. Changed overnight. The problems all came with the change of computors so I know it is somerhow the settings in this machine Even email from YT is being sent to spam and then being droped over night. My email company is called Watchtv.net and I have had the same email provider since 2007. Over air TV and internet untill 4 years ago when I had to move. Everything worked fine with the old machine. They seem to have gotten the problem fixed with it shutting off in middle of trying to make a post to YT. I just basicly know how to use a coumpetr. Non't now what drag is. Need things dumbed down for a dummy.

I can sympathize Jim. I just got a new laptop two days ago. Most everything reloaded to the new one from the cloud or somewhere, I don't understand it. Even though I got everything back, I had to go in to most everything and change settings back to where they were, even here on YT. Trying to get in to those settings to do it has been the problem. My font size was smaller too, so that had to be changed. Luckily it didn't mess with my Yahoo email. Even Craigslist was messed up and it took a day to figure out how to get that to display like it used to.

It's tough for old guys like us to do this stuff. When we got out first computer in the early 90s, the kids were in elementary school and showed me how to run it. The wife has a laptop just like my new one. If she didn't, I'd have had this one all screwed up and would still be trying to figure it out. There was a period there after the kids were grown and the wife hadn't gotten fairly literate in these things, that Royse and I made quite a few trips back and forth with him straightening these things out for us.

What about the friends or relatives I ask about, nobody? How do you open your mail program? If it is by pointing to an Icon or small picture on the desk top (desktop means computer screen as shown when you turn on the computer and if done with start up) If so right click on your mail icon and then put the pointer on Properties at the bottom of the list and left click. Tell us what that says. On the size of the print when you are viewing YT try this if your mouse has a scroll. Hold the control key at the lower left and slowly scroll the wheel away from you.

To increase the print size, hold down the Ctrl key and then tap the + key. When the print size is the size you want, release the Ctrl.

You can also make the print size smaller by using the Ctrl key and the - key.

I have Yahoo email. I check my spam folder every time I look at email. Some belong there, and some do not. When it sends something to Spam, I go into the Spam folder, and one of my options at the top is 'this is not Spam'. If you click that icon, the message will go back to your inbox, and the spam filter will now know to NOT put that sender in spam anymore. If you have particular senders that you want, put them in your contacts list, and the computer will recognize them when next you get a message from them. You can also go into your Spam folder, and set the time length that emails will stay in Spam before they are deleted. I set mine to at least 2 weeks, because I'm not on the computer every day.

OK, it sounds like you're using your web browser to access webmail at https://mail.watchtv.net/landing.php. Since I don't use that particular webmail, I can't tell you exactly what to do. But I can give you some tips to get started, since all webmail clients are similar.

When you go into your webmail, first look to see if there's a place to change your settings. If you can find an icon that says 'Settings' or 'Preferences', click on it. Then look to see if there's a way to change your spam filter settings. Usually you'll have three options, something like high, medium and low. Change it to the lowest (least restrictive) setting; that will probably eliminate a lot of stuff being sent to your spam folder.

Going back to the home page of the webmail, look for your spam folder. Open it up and find a message you want to move to your inbox. Select the message, then see if you can find a option to move it to the inbox. There's probably an 'allow sender' option as well; picking that will guarantee that future messages from the same sender won't be blocked. (This doesn't always work, because many companies will send messages from multiple email addresses.)

If you get stuck, contact WatchTV support. You can email them at [email protected], or call 419-999-2824. Good luck.

Good afternoon, MarkB_MI and others: Mark B, you have highlighted an area that has had me confused for many years! I have never understood the terminology including PROVIDER and CLIENT. I have blundered into the protocol settings in an email system or two, but am not confident as to what to do or change. When I see my doctor, I am a [u:83bfa3e8e7]patient[/u:83bfa3e8e7], he is a [u:83bfa3e8e7]provider[/u:83bfa3e8e7]. If I see my lawyer, I think I am a [u:83bfa3e8e7]client[/u:83bfa3e8e7]. If I go to Kroger or Wal Mart, I may be a [u:83bfa3e8e7]customer[/u:83bfa3e8e7]. If I go to my IMAC, I don't know what my designated title is, nor the services available. I also do not know what things are [u:83bfa3e8e7]Web-Based[/u:83bfa3e8e7]. I have relied on the Geek Squad several times, better than nothing! BTW, I have an HP laptop I bought at Best Buy (Geek Squad's step-parent), the Geek guy told me a week or so ago the operating system will no longer be supported by MicroSoft and the laptop will not support an upgrade to the next higher version of Windows, so the email system in the laptop is dead due to being out of date. So here I am with two tractors over 65 years old, expecting to keep them running, but my 10 year old laptop is at the end of its life. Oh, well!

Dennis, I realize your post is mostly tongue-in-cheek, but I'll try to answer your questions. In computer jargon, the complement to 'client' is 'server', and these terms are used in inconsistent and sometimes contradictory ways. A server is a computer program that provides services, and a client is a program that requests services from a server. The terms are also used to describe the computers that run these programs, where server programs generally run on server computers and client programs run on client computers, such as desktop PCs, laptops, cell phones, etc. I'm going to stop there, because to go any further is just going to confuse things and there's no need to go down that rabbit hole.

So, in the case of email, you typically have an email client program running on your PC that communicates with an email server program that runs on a mail server somewhere, maybe at your internet service provider (ISP). Since different servers use different protocols to communicate, most email client programs allow you to change them. If your email server is run by your ISP, the ISP will tell you what settings to use.

In general 'web-based' just means something you use a browser (e.g. Firefox or MS Edge) to access rather than some other program running on your computer (e.g. MS Outlook or Thunderbird). Some email services support both web-based mail (aka 'webmail') and client/server-based mail. For example, my email provider allows me access to email using a client program running on my home computer, or via a web interface. This allows me to store all my emails on my home computer, yet still be able to check my email while traveling.

As for your obsolescent laptop, I don't know why having an out-of-date operating system should prevent you from accessing your email, but I don't know much about Windows and all things Microsoft. As for being unable to upgrade to a newer version of Windows, did the Geeks tell you why that is? Microsoft specifies minimum hardware requirements for each version of Windows, but those are RECOMMENDATIONS, not really hard-and-fast requirements. MS says how much memory and disk space is needed, and the minimum processor requirements. Of these, free disk space is most important: If there's not enough space on the disk to load the new operating system, it's impossible to upgrade. But memory and processor requirements are softer; you can probably get by with less memory than is specified or a slower processor; Windows will just run slower than it should. Memory and disk can be upgraded, but it may be about as cheap to buy a new laptop. Good luck.

Leroy,
You've been given many recommendations to fix the problems you're having with your computer.
Have you tried any of them? How about giving some feedback.
