Backhoe hours

Good morning new to site,
Contemplating buying a Ford 555C with 10K hour, machine looks, runs and operates great should I be concerned on hours.

If its tight at 10000 hours it was kept up better than
most, probablyrebult as far as the backhoe part
goes.depending on care and use the engine would be
the main concern to me.6000-7000 hours most
machines are getting worn out.

You don't say the year, but mid to late 80s 555 had cavitation issues. Try to determine if it is the original engine. The city had an 84 555B that the engine was replaced at +- 5'000 hrs. Every dealer I checked with had a new engine sitting around ready to go for about $4,500. Apparently it was a common problem.

Is that the 3 or 4 cylinder engine? All of the 555's around here with the 3 cylinder engine have had engine trouble. At some
point, they switched to the 4 cylinder. I believe the 4 cylinder in my 655A is what they went to. That's been a good engine. My
655A I think is in the 5000 hour + range. The discouraging part is some of the hydraulic cylinders I've rebuilt are starting to
leak again. The drippy messy part, and losing expensive hyd. oil is my main concern.

Inspect the boom carefully. The C booms had metallurgical issues. If she's tight, someone did the pins and bushings. Check the engine valve cover for a BSD sticker. Those engines will run 10-12,000 hours with clean air & oil if the coolant is maintained. The answer to your question depends upon purchase price.
