Disk Trade?

I'm pondering doing a trade of my JD AW 13' disk for a 1974 IH 470 at 16" manual fold. IH priced at $2500. Looks good all through, reputable seller. My AW also nice, new blades, bearings, shafts on fronts 500 acres ago. Bought this disk to pair with a 3020 but have another 20 hp now (5510) and a few more feet would be helpful, also the AW not terribly aggressive on cornstalks.
With these items in mind, could sure use some advice on this comparison. The last IH disk I owned was a 10' 37 pulled with a WD45. I'd max out at $1000 boot for the IH if it's right.

I had a 37 IHC disk and liked it, adjustable angle gangs. I don't know how the
470 is but think it probably has the adjustable angle gangs as well. Your disk
now the JD Aw I don't think is adjustable gang angle. So if that is what I am
thinking of I never would have owned it. For finish work set the IH disk at
part gang angle and get a nicer seed bed with less HP. Very seldom did we use
full angle on it. I had way to many non adjustable gang angle disks.

What i do is take a front end weight bracket and set it between the angle iron's, that run from front to back, the weight bracket will set on their crossways, tack some angle iron on em, so they don't vibrate off,and put a 10-15 suitcase weight on em, they cut cornstalks a lot better ! I got tandems wheels, so not a prob with that !

I think a 16' IHC 470 tandem disk with transport tires fully raised will be a "load" for 75-80 DBHP utility tractor. IHC 470 will penetrate soil much better than a JD AW disk harrow

Ah your not going to have enough pony power or tractor for a 16 foot 470 . The 470 18 we have will clean the carbon out of m 806 with duals on and in our rolling ground it's 4th low with the T/A in high and i am pushen 112 Hp . And also my 806 weighs in at 13500 .

This is surprising. I was expecting to read how people were pulling these discs sunk in axle deep in 4th gear with a Farmall H that's got misses in two cylinders.

We used to pull a 16' 470, with a 16' spring tooth harrow and a 16' length of well casing all in a big train behind the 856. 4th Low on the first pass, then 1st Hi on the 2nd pass. When that pipe would load up with dirt you knew you had something behind you.

The 470 is still a light disc, though. Never had much luck chopping up corn stalks with it.

Not sure what number IH tandem discs everyone
out here used to have, but they are bearings like I
eat chocolate cake. Nobody has one now. All went
to jd.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but If I set my 37 at the full angle it wants to leave a hump in the middle. It will do the same in the other two positions if I run it much over 4 mph.

So I'm thinking I'll be ok on HP. The 5510 has 89, MFWD, and currently pulls an 8 shank chisel plow 10"+ deep in B2-3. Most concerned about the bearing comment. The JD greaseless bearings have been flawless. Still thinking.
