What type of flare is this and where might I find one? Its part of a nipple less than an inch in length the threaded portion of the nipple about 1/4 diameter. Obviously, I can find a nipple but not a matching flare.

Doubt there is one, as it looks like it mates with a bottle of some type. If you need to connect to a hose just use a pipe nipple.

It does look like a fitting seat that needs a nut with a hole in it to pull it into contact with a tank or other fitting or valve. Can you give us any history or info. What flows through it? Jim

Maybe he is afraid to divulge what happened. Looks
like it may be an oxy-acetylene or other gas regulator
stem that seals to the tank valve. Looks to me like the
threads are broke off. But I also may be way off, my
other guess is a faucet seat only because an internal
hex is common in them.
Edit: Is 1/4 diameter mean ..a quarter inch.. or approximate diameter of 1/4 inch NPT diameter?

That very much appears to be from a gas system (oxy, acetylene, propane or other welding related gas). A full-service welding supply house will have the part, if such as you want is available.

You are correct about a nut going over it to hold it.

Its off a pressure pot type paint sprayer. The nipple threads into the regulator. The flare side is held to the pot with a nut.

Are you looking for a replacement for the nipple in your picture, with the nut for it? The pot end should have male threads the nut, that belongs on this nipple, screws onto. Post a picture of the fitting you are attempting to hook this to. Do you have the brand and model of the pot? what you need might be available as spare parts.
