Ford 4000-seeking information

Hi,
We bought a piece of property and inherited a Ford 4000 tractor. It runs but needs some repairs and 2 front tires, I have it scheduled for servicing. Can anyone give me an idea of the year on it, and anything I might need to know? Thanks.
(I’ve attached 5 pictures, but am struggling with the uploads).

Ford made two different 4000 models. the rear tires are bigger than the front on both of them.

Is it a grey or blue tractor. grey would be a 4 cylinder engine while blue
would be 3 cylinder. Then gad or diesel? Size of back tires 24 inch, 28 inch
or 30 inch or 38 inch. All will help figure out model. Probably a dozen 4000
models made. So a lot more info needed.

Hmmm. Be careful with the whole color thing. There has been a lot of painting and repainting over the last 50+ years.

Pictures are a good start. Serial numbers are even better. Having both pictures and serial numbers is best, at it helps to see what piece parts might have been changed over the years.

Hello ..polo welcome to YT! At the end of 2022 the
forum host here changed the requirements to new
posters to be able to post photos from a post count of
5 posts to 1 post. I believe this change was only made
on ..Modern View.. so you need to post from there. In
Modern View you will see the Classic View option in a
red outlined box at the top, just adding this as a way to
verify you are in ..Modern View.. You need to try again
with posting your picture in Modern. It should go
through since you have two posts if everything
I understood about the change is correct. This
restriction was a way to keep internet bad guys from
dropping in and posting bad pictures with hidden
viruses. Pictures post through the ..Choose files..
button or some such name just below where it says
..Upload Photos/Videos.. down lower in the ..New post
and reply windows. They cannot be pasted into the
text area as a file. I might also suggest to try just
posting 2 pictures. And if that works reply again with
the other 3.

Welcome and keep trying with the photos. To keep spam doWn new users need to post a few times before pictures
are allowed.

The Ford 4000 and other 1000 series tractors were very popular, they made them a long time. In that time they
made many changes, entirely different engine, and other upgrades. The newest 4000 tractor is entirely different than
the oldest!

So pictures, let us know what type engine you have, what type transmission, and a serial number would be great!

(quoted from post at 19:19:08 01/12/23) I was talking orignal factory paint and I dought something left setting like that would have been repainted.

It could very well have been repainted twice before sitting. A few years ago a body shop down the road had an 801 there for a paint job. They were repainting it the same blue and white that it had been for at least 35 years.

The early 4 cyl version was a '63-64 model.. The later 3 cyl model would be a '65 to 75 model. The later could be had in several variations but usually had the much better 8/2 speed trans, ind pto, and live hydraulics,,,, making it light years better than the earlier model...

I had 3Fords with the independany PTO and I HATED it, A 65 4000, 58 4000 amd a 68 5000. A transmission like the 4 cylinder tractors would have been way better When you needed to stop fast and needed both ground speed and pto speed to stop opn a dime you could not do it. I put a 4000 on PTO job once and pulled it off to go back to the non live pto of my other tractors. Only thimg that independant PTO was good for was running a sprayer pump while spraying incroperate sprays with tank on disk or field cultivator. Other than that hard to use independant pto I did like my 4000 (4100) and 5000 (5100) tractors.
