select o speed

My dad had the first generation SOS, 1960.
The SOS was not one of Fords better ideas.

They gave dad the second generation SOS.

I've avoided SOS. Thinking there are
Very few people who know how to rebuild
them. Also heard parts are not cheap.
Above my ability to repair. Good luck.
Keep us posted on the repair.

This isn't gonna help you much, back in the 1960's thru the
2000's, my wife's uncle ran a very large farm salvage lot. They
took the sos trannys out and converted them to 5 speeds. The
SOS trannys were scrapped.

Get a shop manual and a pressure gauge and go through the trouble shooting procedure. Understand that there is more than one SOS. They don't charge by the word to post here.

Many possibilities, with SOS, need a manual and check each planetary system according to the specs on your tractor model. If you have only lost the odd number
gears, probably ORC and input shafT IS STILL WORKING. PLEASE POST YEAR & model of tractor. There are several pretty savvy guys on the forum.

(quoted from post at 19:43:01 12/26/22) has anyone had issues with a select o speed losing all the odd gears, even ones work, thoughts

I would get a manual for the SOS that includes directions for the band adjustment first. Band adjustment isn't terribly difficult if you have a torque wrench and some basic mechanical skills. I purchased a good running model 871-D last summer but the transmission seemed to be bad. I decided it was worth my time adjusting the bands according to the book. The transmission works great now. In my opinion they are great transmissions when working properly. Band adjustment is a maintenance issue. If they are slipping or not shifting properly band adjustment may be needed. If they require more work or replacing internal parts, it can get expensive or parts are no longer available. A 5 speed transmission becomes a good transplant for the failed SOS.

Besides the band adjusrments there are four regulating valves under the top cover that can be readily adjusted.
