Ratchet strap trick I learned from a farmer.

The farmer showed me this trick.
He puts the loss

End of the strap in the ratchet and continues to tighten the strap.
Then make a few slip knots.

I strap and chain my tractors

When hauling them.
Chains to prevent forward and backward movements.
Straps to prevent lateral movements
Today I'm strapping things in my truck I don't want to have them flow out of
truck.

Please post pictures of your idea of what to do with the end of the strap.
.

I just received delivery of a heavy machine. The young trucker carries a package of zip ties, or tie wraps. The loose ends of his straps were all neatly folded, and tied.

I do the slip knot thing but somehow once in a while the knots will come undone and start flapping. Can't see how that happens.

(quoted from post at 11:14:45 12/04/22) I neatly fold the loose end and tape it to the tight strap with electrical tape.

That is how I do it. Never had one come loose, even after several hundred miles.

I fold up the excess, then use some cheap Harbor Freight spring-loaded clamps to hold that extra bit tight to the straps.

I use velcro straps . Role the strap up and press it agains the tight part, put the Velcro around it and it looks neat and stays put. 1 inch by 14 inches is about the right size.

I roll the tail then when you get near the ratchet reach through the loop and pull it through. Make a loop around the roll and it locks it self in.

I have a younger man here that retired at 34 years age. several (like 6 or so) years ago he designed and patented a pocket like of fabric that slides down over the running end of the flat strap that truckers use and stores the end. I have seen photos but never one in real. They must sell ,he sold the paten and gets royalty from each sale. Must be a good sum because they live pretty rich wise.

Depending on how much was left. I just folded it up some so it was only about 18-24 inches finish tightening the strap with the end of the fold wound in then tucked the flap through the ratchet handle so it was on the inside then when handle was pulled down tight it held the rest of the strap so it didn't flap in the wind. would work well for even 10 feet of strap.

When I use the 2 straps(I mainly use 4 with mounted winches), I pull up most of the slack, then roll the slack, place it flat, horizontally between the load strap and the edge of the bed, as an edge softener, then tighten the ratchet, haven't had one come apart yet.

I can never remember how to do the roll when I need to. Usually I just fold the loose end up, wrap it around the strap, and tie it in a single knot. Never goes anywhere.

Used to wrap with electrical tape, or zip ties.

Craigco - I learned that trick from a rental place a year ago and that's all I do now if I use straps.
