Long / Farmtrac - Would I be Crazy to buy one?

There is a Long 2460 for sale locally. The specs are are exactly what I need and selling at a discount, well, because it's a Long.

I need it as a designated mower. When I search for parts, there are plenty of ads up but will they really have what I need?

Any insights / thoughts?

I have no personal experience with that brand and have seen very few here. I would call some of the parts sources you have found to see if they actually do have parts for them or if they try to find the part once you place an order. I have ran into that problem before

My dad bought a new Long 360 in 1978, and I bought a mid 70s 445 in 1981, the predecessor to a 460
and a 2460. I used them mainly for growing tobacco and making hay. They are not used as much these days but are still going. They are good on fuel, and the hydraulics are probably average. I haven't had any major repairs on either of them. Send me an email if you desire and we can talk further.

Long and Farmtrac tractors have little or no value in my neck of the woods, you cannot hardly give one away. I would really need a tractor
very badly and could get it for next to nothing before I would buy one. I work on tractors for a living and I have worked on my share of
them over the years, but I will not work on one any more. Parts are almost non existent. You can't buy a quart of paint to fit one.

I wouldn't be afraid of a Long at all. A little less finish than the Fiat models they're based on, but pretty close in durability. Parts are not much more
difficult to find than most anything else.

Farmtrac is a different story entirely.

I agree with Jim in NC .I have been using either a 350
or 445 long for 40 years off and on and currently own
a 445 long.the engine if taken care of lasts forever.if
you buy one with the separate lever that acts as a pto
clutch,do not leave the handle in disengage position!!!
It puts pressure on a thrust washer and will damage
the rear main area of the engine so Im told.

I haven t had any problem getting parts for my Farmtrac 555, but I did do a engine swap and installed a Ford 192 ci 3 cylinder engine
I actually liked the Bosch fuel system and Cummins style injectors they used but the head bolts are different sized requiring the head bolt holes in the head to be redrilled to size

Having a complete engine and fuel system ready to bolt on I didn t want to reinvent the wheel

Problem is no one has what you need. Friend of mine had to buy a complete tractor to get the few parts he needed, that was last month. The last time I bought from Import tractor it took 13 days to get them through customs. A good friend of mine, now deceased, was a Long dealer for 2 years. They basically put him out of business. He told me that he was in a dealers meeting at one time and they told the dealers that a Long was a hobby farmers tractor and not to sell them to anyone that put over 100 hours a year one. By the time that they had 100 hours on them he was out of business and I ended up working on them. Every 2610 that he sold had blown a head gasket by the time they had 100 hours on them. I'm sorry that we disagree, but I think they are junk and a New Holland 3010S is the same. I work on this stuff every day and have for the last 40 + years. I know what to buy and what not to.

I've been running Fiat built Long,AC and Oliver tractors now for about 25 years have given me good service, never any issues getting parts I've needed.Even have a Long R9500 which is a MF/Landini hybrid of sorts, good brush hogging tractor.

Just for the availability of parts I would run not walk away. Not that parts can't be gotten just may take longer than planned a lot longer.

I bought a 560 Long new in '78, quiet, fuel efficient, maneuverable, trouble free for the 14,000 hours I put on before selling after the cows had gone.
