Update on the Prestolite distributor, MH 101 Jr.

I contacted a couple of distributor rebuilders. No shaft available. Nothing compatible on eBay or FB marketplace. I even sifted through a lot of Willys Jeep sites (same IAT-4405 distributor). So I began putting mine back together and noticed the top (points cam) shaft was not running true. Instead of having a lot of slop, it was bent. Two lobes would open the points the .020 as set, and the other two would go out beyond .040. So with a couple of deftly placed whacks with a lead hammer, both shafts are running true, and the points gap stays at .020. I built a little stainless retainer for the vacuum advance plate, and finished up putting it back in. The old Massey 101 Jr. started right up with very minimal adjusting to the timing. I moved some snow, and have more to move today. I'm going to keep an eye out for a NOS shaft if one becomes available, just in case. Thank you all for your continuing support, and phenomenal advice. steve

Good deal!

I didn't look, but did you ask om the Massey Harris board below? Pretty active down there, someone might have a distributor, or know of an alternative. Sometimes other manufacturers also made distributors that will directly replace your Prestolite.

Happy to here you got it running. You probably wouldnt be pushing snow here without a cab. Minus 29 Celsius wind chill and light snow out of the southeast.

Good afternoon, stevieb: I have had a Prestolite distributor in my barn for several years. I don't know what it fits, nor why I have it. Reply if you still need the shaft, and tell me how to know if mine will work for yours.

Dennis, my email is open. If you message me via email, I'll send you a picture of mine, and what the specifics are for it to fit my Massey (Continental engine). Look for an aluminum tag on the side of the distributor body. That's the easiest way to tell what model it is. Thanks, in advance. steve

It wasn't that much fun here. I forgot to put my snow pants on, and it's still piling up. I was doing OK with the 4 wheeler until I buried it in a pile. Had to get the Massey out to pull it out, and since it was running, and plows a wider swath than the Polaris, I finished up with the tractor. That was an hour and half ago, and there's already 3 more inches on the driveway. But, the temp is at 23F, and absolutely no wind. Full snow suit for this evening's plow!! Hopefully the roads are good - I have a doc appointment at 8 in the morning. steve

Steve, I have an Autolite off my parts tractor, so I had options, but the Autolite is really worn bad. I may start looking for parts for it, in case I can't keep my Prestolite working.

yes the 44 had a flathead continental engine up to 1949. its called the 44-6. i have one here.
