Does anyone know where to get head bolts for a 134 gas engine on a ford 640 that dont cost an arm and a leg? The only ones I've been able to find are $30 plus per bolt which seems way high.

I'm not sure if they are torque to yield or not. This is the first engine I've torn down and I want to make sure everything is done right.

I understand that occasionally head bolts need replaced. An older gas tractor engine like that I consider the head bolts reusable. If you are replacing them all in my opinion you would need to be having a problem with the head not sealing after a recent gasket replacement. A quick search showed the basic price range you are showing. The other option is a salvage bolt.

The weak point of a head bolt is in the portion of thread that doesn't thread into the block. If no sign of stretch(Over torqueing), they should be good.

If they are not rust pitted or damaged, reuse them.

DO NOT run a die over the threads, instead polish them up with a wire brush.

DO carefully run a hand tap through all the block holes.

Check into ARPS studs. Not to save money but to be doing it right. Once you run your thumb nail over the edge of the thread you will be a believer.
