Working with the kids

Here's a couple shots of corn today. We have a day or two left, and my older two sons were home from school this weekend and helped combine.

The first shot is meeting middle son with some corn loads... he used the big tractor, I used the 70. :)

Next shot is oldest son on combine.

Oh boy, it's good to work with the kids!

Just in case you are curious, I pulled just as much stuff home with the 70 is my son did with the 8235r. Yeah, the 70 was a little more loaded down, but she sounded great in the cold. In case you are curious, it was a balmy 20 degrees with strong winds. There were several snow squals, but it's cold enough the combine sieves stayed clean.

With a 6 row head, assume you use a 6 row planter. Neighbor combined last weekend and took them a bunch of hours to get in 12 acres. Apparently a good amount of it went down along a woods. I assume they might need to run a chisel plow there.

How do you keep wheels and spindles on those store bought wagons. Ours always have some problems with the wheels cracking then break out the bolts and sometimes the hub. Glad I don't have to mess with wagons for the haul like we used to. the only wagons we never had trouble with were ones with truck axles under them. No not truck tires the entire wagon frame was old truck frames with a tongue on them. Gm made the best ones with heavy axles stayed away from the ball bearing axles though.

What do you wear for gloves? Or maybe you have leather mittens? My fingers would be freezing.

I always tell people to go SLOW when going out on the road. Never broken a spindle. Very few cracked rims on these, tandem axle chopper boxes yes.

CM. Thanks for the pics and a great story about the true life of the American farmer and his family. Your children are going places. Not later but now. Wingnut

WIsconsin, compared to other midwestern states, has very few unpaved roads. Something about milk needing to get to market back in the day made local and state governments think long term. Today of course there are lots of funding headaches to keep them paved!

I worked with both my sons today doing demo work in a house . Didnt know my oldest son , in college, liked doing this kind of work as he never showed much interest before. His younger brother helps me when I need it doing carpentry work. He likes working with his hands.
I enjoyed spending the day with both of them.
